S/O Easter Post - Plastic Eggs, What do you put in them for a 2 year old?

I think G would enjoy looking for Easter eggs this year but I'm having a hard time thinking of what to put in them. When I was little my family put quarters and candy - but he's too young for coins and I don't want him to eat a bunch of candy.

Cheerios? $1 Store trinkets?

  • My MIL filled some with cereal for EJ at that age. She loved it- and kept asking for them to be refilled.  :)
  • I buy sheets or rolls of stickers or tattoos and cut them up to put in the eggs.

  • My mom used to put matchboxes in my nephews. She bought the bigger ones.

Puffs! Yogurt melts. I think dd still liked those at that age. Bunny Grahams? Cheddar bunnies?

I'm pretty sure we did do coins at that age because she had a big bank that she was obsessed with putting coins into.

  • We hide the eggs that we dye.   So it's the finding the egg that's fun, and not the treat inside around my house.  (that's how they did it back in the olden days when I was little, so I guess that's why I do it that way).
  • stickers, tattoos.  you don't have to put a ton of candy in an egg..a few M&Ms are fine.

he might also enjoy making an easter egg hunt for the dogs - putting treats in the eggs and hiding them, then "helping" the dogs find and open their eggs.

  • If for other kids (hunt at school, community, daycare), we put in stickers, tattoos, small gummi packets, socks (something like Mickey or just a plain color)

For hunts at our house or grandparents, we put in $$, puffs, goldfish, hair clips/bows (girls here).

Clearly I have girls because I was like "why does she give matches to the kids" for about 10 minutes....then I realized you were talking about matchbox cars!

  • Great ideas! Thanks, all.

He loves matchbox/hot wheels and I think he'd get a big kick out of finding them in eggs.

  • When dd was younger I found a set of 4 Easter eggs with Little People figures in them.  Not sure if they still make them, but it was great for that age.
