WIALT: Unbroken (NS)

You guys, why did I not listen when everyone was raving about this book before?!  I'm only on disc 4/11, but I already want to spend all my time in the car listening to it.  I love WW2 stories, but I admit that I know very little about the Pacific side of the war, and so this has been really interesting in that way.  But more than that, it's just a really good story so far, with the Olympics story and what a crazy childhood Louie had . . . I feel like I'm getting to know all of the guys in the book. I'm enthralled, and so glad that someone here recommended the audiobook, because otherwise I'm not sure when I would've gotten around to reading it.  So thanks for that.

Re: WIALT: Unbroken (NS)

  • I listened to this a couple years ago while I was taking down our Christmas tree.  DH came home to find me sitting in the middle of the living room floor with my mouth open, in shock/awe of what I was hearing.  This book is WOW.

This book blew my mind. I don't say that of many books but knowing that all of these things REALLY HAPPENED to this man completely blew me away. I cannot fathom the depths of his despair. And to overcome it all? Unbelievable.

  • I just finished this book like literally ten minutes ago. The story is just unbelievable. Its hard to wrap your mind around it. How can one person go through so much? It was really interesting to hear what was happening in that region during WWII. My grandfather was stationed in Pearl Harbor and Okinawa during that time with the navy. My mom said he would never talk about it. It was an amazing book.

Me too!  I think seeing the movie trailer (maybe during the Olympics?) was what finally woke me up to want to read the book, and then a week or two ago, someone here recommended the audiobook.  I'm definitely going to be running errands and taking a long way home today so I can listen to a bunch more of it.
  • Unbroken was one of the best books I've read in a long time. You girls are making a strong case for the audio and I kind of wish I had listened to it instead...

    Glad you're enjoying it!
