Pay Day

So I sort of over estimated my take home with no overtime, but finally have a pay check that has barely any over time on it, and it is about $60 short of what I estimated $840 instead of $900.  I know this is going to tighten things up a ton, but I want to try to budget on $1600 instead of $1800, and maybe not be in as much of a push to be debt free.  My goal is still 3 years, but I am not going to have control it my life.  I have 2 paychecks a year that will be going specifically towards debt pay off as well as my tax returns.  My current tax withholding is single 0, so it will not change once the divorce is final.  I plan on shopping at PriceRite, and being budget smart about shopping.

Edited for grammar.

Re: Pay Day

  • I was withholding at the Married but withholding at the higher Single rate during my marriage.
  • Sounds like you have some good plans in place. You may have to adjust occasionally as things in your life to change, but it sounds like you have realistic goals.

Agreed! Also, don't forget to check Job Lot for things like olive oil, dry pasta, rice, etc.

We're not putting every last penny to our debt, either. It doesn't work for us. But, we have a plan and have stopped building new debt (for 6 months now!) which I'm glad of.

This is us too.  We feel like we need to balance living life vs. paying down debt.  None of our debt is particularly high-interest, and we make more in the market by investing than we lose by paying interest.  That said, we'd like to be free of it sooner rather than later, but not at the expense of our savings or our lifestyle.

  • I forgot about Job Lot. I need to go there to get a yoga mat for Zumba. My place I go to offers some good deals including an unlimited monthly class card.
  • I totally agree with others that said that you need to balance paying off debt and living life.  My wife and I are in agreement with this.  We also tend to put money aside each month for emergencies, non-monthly bills, vacation, gifts, etc so that we have the cash to pay for new things.
