This is gross right?

We dyed eggs Saturday night. They were drying and I thought MIL was putting them up when we went to bed. I woke up and they were still on the table. They never went into the refrigerator, we even hid them in the yard. So I figured they wouldn't be eaten.

This morning, MIL gives H a jar of pickling eggs. It's the eggs that have been out for a day and a half!!! Jeff said that's how they always do it... He said they are ok, they are hard boiled. It's still eggs!

Clear up this road trip fight - gross or ok?

  • Jeff wants me to clarify... I wouldn't eat them and he doesn't care what you say, he is!

  • um I wouldn't eat anything pickled...and as long as the eggs were never in the refrigerator to begin with they would be okay. but if they're from the supermarket and were cold before being left out I don't think I would eat them.

They may have been from the farmer's market... But MIL had them in the refrigerator before hard boiling them. I did read the supermarket ones are processed and stripped of a protective later. But after you hard boil them they should be refrigerated after 2-3 hours.

Also about the pickling... Jeff said pickling makes gross things better. Like pigs feet. Regular eggs are fine as is!

The only let thing I eat pickled are cucumbers (pickles).

  • I wouldn't eat them, but know quite a few people that eat the eggs after they have been out all day.

growing up we always left our hard boiled eggs out from Easter and ate them for a few days....we will NOT be doing that in my house.
  • I feel like I'm lax on most leftovers but I don't mess with milk or eggs (or there by products, mayo, cheese, etc).

At least I talked him into refrigerating the jar when he opens it...

  • Yeah, I wouldn't eat them.  This got me thinking, though, and I'm fairly certain that we never ate any of the eggs we decorated.
  • We ate the eggs we decorated but I remember them going back in the refrigerator

  • I've been eating the ones we dyed on Saturday with my Mom. They were out when I got there on Sunday....I honestly have no clue on whether or not the were in the fridge between Sat and Sun.
