CBH Names I'm loving lately

I wouldn't use them, but I've been liking the girl names Cecily and Bryony. WDYT? I'm also kind of liking the boy name Bram.

I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

Re: CBH Names I'm loving lately

  • I can honestly say I've never heard the name Bryony before.
Cecily just makes me think of the Philly weather lady Cecily Tynan so I could never use it, but I could see how someone else might like it.

  • Yes. I think it's the two y thing that makes it look extremely made up.

  • Cecily is cute (but not with the nn ceecee). Bryony looks made up and I'm not sure how to even say it. I have a pet named Byron so I keep seeing Byrony. Bram looks made up to me too, IMO. Maybe ok as a nn, but not as a real name.

  • Was someone watching/reading Atonement?? That's the only place I've ever seen/heard the name Briony (<--spelled that way) before. (For those uncertain, it's pronounced BREE-o-nee.)

Cecily is pretty. I kind of like it and its variations (Cecilia/Celia).

Bram reminds me of Dracula's author. I'm not sure about it either way.

Ahh.. that helps. I was thinking "br-eye-oh-nee". I still don't like it, but Briony looks better and the correct pronunciation does help a teeny bit. Still not a fan though lol

The girl I went to school with named Bryony had the br-eye-oh-nee pronunciation.

  • Br-eye-oh-nee is the pronunciation I'm familiar with. I have heard it is a more common British name. Briony is a variant spelling, but the plant is spelled Bryony which makes me prefer it that way.

I am 90% set on a potential future girl being named Corinne though. Tessa is the other option and if we did go with that one she would be Tessa Corinne.

I see now (I looked it up again). It's
almost like pronouncing "Brian" with a 'y' on the end. I like that it's different, but DH would never go for it (I ran Isla by him and he said it sounded way too weird,  8-| )

Bryony is my boss's name. It's definitely more common in Britain, and it's usually pronounced 'br-eye-oh-nee'.

Actually, for those uncertain it's NOT usually pronounced "Bree-o-nee."

Seriously rolling my eyes right now. Doesn't matter though, because it's ugly.
  • I also think of the Philly weather woman when I hear Cecily, but I do think it's cute. Bryony is NMS. Bram makes me think of Dracula (Bram Stoker), and I would never give it to a girl, even as a nn. Maybe a boy, but HIGHLY unlikely.
  • Bryony sounds like a terribly uncreative nn for Brian/Bryan/Bryon lol. That's just where my mind goes after I get Bronies out of my head.
  • I actually like Bryony better than Cecily.  Bram is awesome!
