SBC The Golden Compass

Read a book featuring an eccentric mom and post a review to NBC: The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

I've read this book many times in the past but I've been meaning to re-read it. I saw it on the list for Eccentric Moms and decided it was the perfect excuse.

This books was one of my favorites as a kid and I still love it, I just don't think it grows as well with you as say the Harry Potter books. Still, a really fun book with unique characters. I definitely think it belongs in the Eccentric Mom category, even if the mom isn't the center of the story, she's unconventional enough to fit.

5 Stars, it's a favorite I can't wait for my daughter to read someday.

To be honest, I've never finished the series. I've always gotten halfway through the third book and stopped for one reason or another. Hopefully I can get through it this year.

Re: SBC The Golden Compass

  • I loved this series because it was just different enough from other books. I bought all three books recently at a used book sale to put back for my daughter. :)

I loved this series as a kid. I did a reread 10yrs or so ago and loved it just as much. So so good.
  • Ooo this has been on my TBR for a while...maybe I'll use it for the eccentric mom category too!
  • I plan on reading this one for SBC. It's good to hear all these great reviews.

    my read shelf:
Jenn's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • I loved the first and second book in this series. I tried so many times and could just not get into the third book at all. Definitely a great book for a YA series.

The third book is def harder to get through. It is worth it, but it feels like such a completely different story than the first. It is more along the lines of his "Other Dark Tales" , if l remember correctly.
