Read a book featuring an eccentric mom and post a review to NBC.

I chose Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn for this category. I had read her other books and enjoyed them but hadn't had the chance to read this one yet. I gave this book 3 stars. I enjoyed it, but it was not my favorite by the author. The ending was not really a surprise to me at all. Munchausen by Proxy was something I suspected of the mother very early on in the book. I have heard a lot about that disorder previously so that might be part of the reason. The half-sister was a nice added element. I do wish there would have been more of the story that dealt with the MC's cutting. It obviously was a huge part of the MC's character but I felt like there was limited storyline that was devoted to it.

Re: SBC: Sharp Objects (sp)

  • I totally agree with your assessment.  This had a very predictable outcome.  I enjoyed it, though not nearly as much as Gone Girl or Dark Places.

  • I also agree but I did not like the book. Gone Girl was much better to me and Dark Places was a little better than Sharp Objects.
  • I actually liked this one more than Dark Places and probably just as much as Gone Girl.  I loved how the creepy mom and half sister were.  Gillian Flynn writes some really dark stuff!

  • I'm sorry you didn't like it.  This was actually my favorite of Gillian's Flynn's books.

  • I loved this one.  I thought it was going to be predictable, but I had maybe half of it figured out by the end.  There were still a couple big surprises in there for me!
