World Book Night Givers

Tomorrow will be my first time as a WBN giver and I'm really excited to be giving Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.  I was wondering if there are many other givers getting ready for tomorrow and if you have any advice for first timers.

Re: World Book Night Givers

  • I'm giving Where'd You Go, Bernadette? So excited!

This'll be my 3rd time giving and I have so much fun with it every year. My advice depends on where you're giving. I always give at work since there are so many nonreaders in my department so its a bit easier for me since I'm not giving to complete strangers.

  • Tomorrow night will be my first time giving, and my husband's too.  I'm giving Botany of Desire and he is giving Kitchen Confidential.

We're planning to go to the park near our house, figuring there will be lots of people there for kids' lacrosse and soccer practices, and for the playground.  I have no idea how this is going to work, maybe one of us will stay near the playgrounds with DD and the other one can wander over to the lacrosse fields or something.  If it doesn't go well, I'll probably bring my books into work on Thursday and talk to some people here.
  • I'm giving Where'd You Go Bernadette at the college library I work at and whatever's left I'll take downtown and pass out there.  I have no advice, but I've had amazing experiences giving the past two years.  Just be bold and enjoy watching how excited strangers get over a free book!

  • I'll be giving at work since there are a lot of non-readers there so I think it will make it a little easier since I won't have to approach complete strangers.  I am looking foward to seeing people's reactions.  I think it will be an amazing experience.  I'm going to surprise my whole team tomorrow morning at our morning meeting so I'm especially excited to see how they react.
  • This sounds awesome. Can someone share more about WBN or post the link to a previous discussion about it. I'm still new around here.
  • Here's the link for world book night.  http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/  I first heard about it on here last year and knew it would be something I would love doing.
  • I just pass out to my students, so it's fun. But since I'm giving Code Name Verity this year, and that's a book I taught to my honors class, I think I may pass it out to some of the other teachers here, too.

  • This will be my 3rd year. I always give half to the women's center where my mom volunteers and pass out the other half at random.

Shaun always gives half of his to an alternative high school and passes out the rest.

Last year we passed out at the park while the boys played. I think we'll do the same this year.

  • This is my first year and I'm very excited! I'm giving away The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  I'm going to pass them out around the high school and then if I have any left, I may go to the bus stop where the kids hang out or to one of the nearby stores.

  • I'm giving away Perks of Being a Wallflower this year.  I hand most of them out at work because there are only a handful of my CWs that are readers.  I gave some out at happy hour last year.  It was super easy because I had a few drinks and had no problem talking to strangers.

  • Just got home from delivering mine to a local women center. They were really, really excited about them.

    WBN is my fave.

  • I'm giving out Where'd You Go, Bernadette? There's a fairly big book club group at work, so I brought in some copies for people who aren't in the book club. One of the women was so excited about it that she brought me a snack this afternoon and said thank you again. It makes me happy to see people get so excited about books!
  • I signed up for the newsletter and hope to do this next year!

Good for all of you who are already involved :) I hope you enjoy all the good feelings of giving someone a new book, x20! :)
  • I gave away Where'd you go, Bernadette? during happy hour and so many people were pumped. I had a few people who were big readers ask about how they can get involved. It was much more fun this year.
