Re: I kinda want to punch this book in the face

• Yes, it's early but it's Friday so I think that cancels it out. This book must be what is making you cranky. Ew.
• But don't girls just love to practice writing phrases like "slumber party" and "friendship bracelet"????  ::sarcasm font::

• Maybe there is an entire chapter on writing your name in cursive with the last name of your current crush!!!

Good times!

• WTF is this?  I hate crap like this.  Slumber party?  Friendship bracelet?  Pink cursive writing?  This is almost as offensive as the God awful tshirt my husband brought home the other day.  I don't know what the hell he was thinking.  He said it was one of the only shirts in the store that fit right and he didn't pay attention to what was on it.  I told him he could never wear it in public around people we know except for maybe at the gym........but if I saw a guy wearing that shirt at the gym I would think he was a dick.  I think he will probably return it after my rant.

• This book may be a little over the top, but I'm so glad books like this are out there since I heard they don't teach handwriting in public schools anymore. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I heard the big stink about it being taken out of the program, but of course, wouldn't have known if they left it in.

• I don't think they teach it in all schools.  They teach it in my childrens school, but they don't go to a public school.

I don't care that it's about cursive writing, but the way it is presented is atrocious.

• At first, by the title, it was interesting.  I love good penmanship, and probably would find a cursive book fun.  But, OMG.  Slumber party? This is such a gender stereotype.

• I don't understand why cursive needs to be "for girls" either.  It's a cursive book.  Make it gender neutral for crying out loud.  Girls don't need cursive more than boys and neither needs their own separate book.  FYI the boys' version of this book is blue with a racecar on the cover and has phrases like "play hard" and "knock it out of the park."  Teaching cursive?  Yes.  Teaching ridiculous gender stereotypes?  Hell no.
Yes.  This.  All of this.

I agree with this! I understand what they are trying to do and it is kind of neat and may be a little more "fun" and encouraging but I totally agree JenE about the way it is presented!!! Come on!

• The boy one is equally as offensive.

"Boys enjoy reading boyish phrases like "monster trucks" or "play hard" and sentences like, "Knock it out of the park," or "Why does junk food taste so good?."

• You know, I try not to be surprised at the number of gender biases I see on a daily basis -- and in 2014, no less -- but all I really have to say about this book and its counterpart is wow.
It makes me sad that some people still think like this.
