What are some of your favorite more recent IRL book club books?

I'd like to suggest some books for my book club but don't want to suggest anything bad.  We just read The Goldfinch so maybe something shorter.  Recently we read The Fault in our Stars, And the Mountains Echoed, Sharp Objects, and Me Before you.  I am the youngest in the group at 32, the rest are in their late 40s and 50s.  Any ideas?

  • Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok and Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons by Lorna Landvik were liked in my book club this year.  I guess neither are really "recent" though.  (But our age group is about the same as yours.)

We just read The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer, but I didn't read it. There was a lot of discussion though.

  • The Book Thief and The Art Forger are the 2 standouts from my book club in the last year. The Bok Thief is WWII YA Fiction so there were endless layers to discuss, plus a very interesting narration. The Art Forger wasn't the most well written book but it brought out a great discussion of morality and we discussed art quite extensively too.
  • Thanks so much! I will have a lot of books to recommend next meeting! Looking forward to reading some of these after reading the synopsis and reviews on good reads!
