Re: weekend accountability post

  • This weekend was really good for us. On Friday we went out to a movie, and got popcorn and pop so like $40. Saturday I took DS to a naturefest near us, and everything was completely free which is awesome. Although I bought lunch which was $9. Saturday DH went and salvaged composite deck boards from a friend who was removing his deck- so future free project to create garden planter boxes and a floor for our shed! Sunday I went to CVS and spent $10 on razors. So we had a pretty good weekend and only spent around $60

Just sent a check off towards DS's college tuition fund. In May they should start auto-deducting every month, so I don't forget anymore. We also found a lawyer to do a will, but I really need to get back to her to set up an appointment.

For me the best thing we did was the petting zoo at Naturefest. DS loved the animals, although he got a bit freaked out when a donkey came over and licked his toes.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? No crazy surprises this weekend, but the big sewer job is underway today. I get to stay home and watch it all unfold.. should be interesting. Groceries ($160), Home Depot for grass seed, evergreen spikes, hydrangea food ($30)

    2. Any progress towards goals? We'll be taking about $6,500 from our savings account to pay for the sewer job and then replenish it over the next few months. We're going to wait to add to our Roth IRA in December instead of July- mostly because of this big repair.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? We took the girls to the zoo on Sunday- it was a very good time. They're both at the age where going to places and watching them take everything in is so much fun. We spent the time with one of DD#1's day care buddies and her parents. DD#2 rode the merry-go-round for the first time and loved it.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Mine was pretty cheap.  I spent $55 at Costco to restock on some things plus $17 at Target for groceries.  That's it.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not this week.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? I didn't have a very relaxing weekend.  My grandmother spent 8 hours having heart surgery on Friday (she's 83).  On Saturday it was touch and go all day long.  She lost so much blood the hospital had to call the Red Cross.  Yesterday she finally stabilized but was hallucinating from the meds and lack of sleep (she kept telling my mom to get rid of the ghosts).  My mom emailed me this morning and said she finally seems to be getting better both physically AND mentally - some of the meds wore off and she finally slept naturally for the first time in nearly a week (no joke).  Hopefully she'll be out of the ICU this evening.

I did get my apartment super clean, though, and I made space in my closet for H.  Other than that, I honestly didn't have the energy to do much of anything because I was worried for my grandmother.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? I spent a lot of money but most of it was expected/budgeted for or I used gift cards. $30 at Kohls for new kitchen rugs, $75 at Target for summer clothes all paid for with gift cards from our bridal shower (and we still have about $200 of gift cards left), $ 175 at Victoria's Secret all paid for with gift cards from my shower, $8 at Starbucks, $30 to eat dinner out Saturday since I hadn't seen FI since Tuesday, $5 at Panera before shopping, $8 for dog food (had 2 coupons worth $3 so I stocked up), $130 at Coach Outlet for wristlets for the bridesmaid (budgeted it for),  and $9 at Qdoba.

At this point eating out seems to be my biggest money waster, which I'm trying to get better about.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Yes! Scheduled all my payments to come out when I get paid Thursday (a regular practice for me), created my budget for my next pay check, and that budget includes throwing the extra $445 from my extra check next month toward my $1777 credit card balance.

And since we had the Friday what's up this weekend post- 3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? Seeing my fiance was the most fun thing, we hadn't seen each other since Tuesday from working opposite schedules so it was really nice to just to spend some time with him.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

It was good. $0 Friday night, $0 Saturday, $27 breakfast Sunday, and $150 Walmart. It was groceries but we had a lot of odds and ends to paint the free changing table I got, and H needed some stuff for my dad's truck.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Well, jeep was paid off 2 weeks ago so I've set up to roll that over into my last student loan!

And since we had the Friday what's up this weekend post- 3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend?

Prenatal yoga is a god sent! I need to get a DVD to do along with my class on Friday.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Oh man, this weekend was so bad for us. I spent more than usual for groceries ($140), DH and I bought each other gifts for our anniversary (total, $100), and we spent about $200 on pet supplies, although I am very excited because we adopted a puppy! :)

    2. Any progress towards goals? Not this weekend, we're just staying on track this week.

And since we had the Friday what's up this weekend post- 3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? We adopted a puppy! He's a German Shepard/St. Bernard Mix and just sweet as can be. The shelter named him Max, but since he's so young we're thinking about changing his name. DH wants to name him Oberon, but I'm not 100% sold on that name.I guess "Obi" for short could work though. Any name suggestions?

    1. How MM was your weekend?

It really wasn't bad. I actually stayed within budget for everything.

Friday: groceries, gas, and eating out was all under budget. I took DD out for a fun house $10 and we went out for ice cream Sunday $17. Saturday we spent nothing. It was a very good weekend MM wise.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

The only progress I really had this month was being able to save up and not transfer money over from our savings. I overspent on two things at the beginning of the month and moved money around to avoid fees (while still paying bills on time) but I thought I was going to have to transfer between $50 and $200 to cover what I spent. I'm just so happy we were able to avoid that.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend?

I took DD to a bouncy house place on Friday and she really enjoyed herself. She did so well grocery shopping and ate up all her food when we stopped to get tacos. I enjoy afternoons like that. That to me is relaxing.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Spent $30 between dinner Friday, and lunch Saturday.
Then spent $60 on stuff for the backyard on Sunday.  Hopefully we only have $60 left to spend on our projects.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
Listed my car for sale and have received 2 e-mails with people interested so far.  Hopefully we can get it sold and purchase a car in cash and get rid of some debt.
We won't be paying anything toward loans this month because of that. So whenever we do sell it, then we have a good amount of cash to pay for a different vehicle.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend?
Ran in my 3rd half marathon.  It was fun, but didn't do as well as I was hoping for.  Oh well.

  • 1- $50 at walmart - $10 at bedbathbeyond - $7 on fast food

2- Not this last week although with all the money I've been making from gigs the last 2 weeks that is sure to change this week.  I will be bringing in around $800 from gigs just since easter.

2- not relaxing at all.  I had 2 performances on saturday and 1 rehearsal on friday night.  I was so dead tired yesterday.  Today is my relaxing "me" time day.  I'm going to do a bit of retail therapy with a pedicure.  DH is watching DD all day for me.  I really need this!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? $25 to run a 5k, $12 on food during the trip, $33 on groceries and $2 on a used book H wanted. Not bad at all.

    2. Any progress towards goals? No. H gets paid on Thursday and then we can finish the E fund.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? Watched House M.D. on Netflix with H. It was easily my favorite part of the weekend.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? It was good I think! I worked both days and we didn't go out besides that except for groceries. We spent about $100.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Yes!! My husband received a check for payment for a wedding he is photographing this summer, a check from an old employer, and he had the rest of his swing shift on this pay. So he was able to contribute a lot towards our savings. Our mother in law just moved out of the house we rent last week, but she decided to still help us out this month with bills, so I was able to save an additional amount of money. She is helping us out because we are trying to buy a house and she is our real estate agent.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? Like I mentioned, my mother in law just moved out, so all of our cool wedding gifts and my kitchen stuff was stored in the garage. It was like Christmas unpacking all of the fun kitchen things. I love making stuff in the kitchen, so I love my kitchen things and having my own space. We cooked on new pots and pans all weekend! :)

  • 1. Grocery shopping - about 90. and i think thats pretty much it.

    2. Um well DH worked at his 2nd job on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that made us some money.

    3. Friday night we went to see a friend for a few hours but other then that - nothing. I really didn't do anything this weekend... I sat home all weekend and didn't do nearly enough cleaning or laundry as usual.

  • 1. We filled up the gas tank. It as on empty and and it cost $80! Damn! I also got my dog groomed, there another $45. The good thing was we didn't eat out at all this weekend. We will eat at home for the rest of the week because we'll be in Charlotte next weekend for my big bro's 40th, I have a feeling the long weekend will not be cheap. My parents and aunt and uncle are going, and they both offered to pick up the tab for dinner one night. Plus, dinner on Saturday night will be the party.

    2. Nothing new.

    3. I packed all weekend. Moving and for the trip. The only thing I did to relax was crash at the end of the day into my bed.
  • Hoffse I hope your grandmother just keeps getting better.

Rockymountaingirl- yeah for the new puppy! I love animals.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Decent, we spent $35 on eating out the rest in cash.  MW did buy me my birthday gifts for my birthday this weekend.  I will be taking money from our vacation/ gift/ etc to go on a meat run this Thursday.  I am planning on trying to BBQ a brisket for my Birthday.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Last week I did put $310 towards my suit.

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend? Helped my friends move her Mother's day apple trees from the pipeline side of their property to the other side.
  • @wulfgar I love BBQ brisket. We make it several times a summer, and I love leftovers- I always make baked potatoes the second day and have BBQ baked potatoes- you've made me hungry now!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Man, I always think we do pretty well and then I list it all out and it doesn't seem so great after all! Friday H and I bought beer and wine and had a night in ($20). Saturday we went to an outlet mall to get H some pants for an upcoming business trip and I got a dress for an upcoming wedding ($80). We went out to dinner with friends that night ($45). Sunday I was going to go to the mall but I got rear ended while driving our month old car and was so sad that I just went home :(

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    Not really

    3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend?

Dinner on Saturday was nice because we spent time with 2 friends we don't see very often.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

$40 on take out friday...we got home late, there was no food in the fridge and I was too tired to cook (the usual excuses). $80 grocery store. $28 on a ticket to the ballet for H...mine was comped. and thursday I spent $140 on amazon for dog food, cat food, a new hose, a new handle for the outdoor faucette, new attachments for both hoses, and 2 cord locks for the roman shades I'm making...didn't spend it on the weekend...but it was extra shopping.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

My boss and I completed my annual review (i exceed expectations :) ) so we're working through the process of getting me a raise (which is unbelievably difficult at my institution even though my position is funded by grant money that more than covers my salary and benefits).

And since we had the Friday what's up this weekend post- 3. What was the best/most fun/most relaxing thing you did this weekend?

I watched my students perform "The Sleeping Beauty" twice, they blow me away every show! very proud to teach those kids and even happier I was invited to be part of the Board of Directors for the company so I can help make sure performances can keep happening (their balance sheets are a mess!)

  • 1. Friday, $25 dinner out. Saturday, $25 for a pedi. $108 at Target, and $77 at the grocery store.

2 . DH worked ridiculous amount of OT last 2 weeks, so I put extra money in our baby fund account.

    3. It was uneventful weekend and I loved it! Was able to relax and just enjoy some 'me' time.
  • Gdaisy, sounds exciting about the ballet company!  The ballet company where I grew up had a really savvy director, and she managed to turn it into one of those things that virtually every decently well-off parent in the community would try with their daughters (and a few sons), at least while they were young.  Signing up for ballet lessons with her actually became one of those things that was socially expected, at least when your kid was little.

Of course the classes thinned out as students got older, but it still created a really supportive community core, and it's one of those things that everybody really threw their weight behind.  By the time I graduated we were doing 4 different shows a year.  Our Nutcracker had 8 performances, all of which would sell out out within the first week of tickets going on sale.  It was pretty awesome for a small town.

Sorry to ramble, but it's exciting you get to be on the board!

  • yes! hoffse! I also grew up in an amazing company...i think it helped guide my life to where it is now :) we did Nutcracker in an amazing theater with a full orchestra and brought in pros to do Sugar...Sarah Mearns did my alma mater's sugar this past year...WISH I were there!

This company is much smaller and has been struggling recently (their nutcracker lost money this past year). They have amazingly talented girls but are struggling with fundraising and getting the communty behind them. I'm SO excited to be a new younger voice on the board to bring some change to an organization that is stuck in it's ways from 15 years ago.
