Did Overdrive change its platform?

It's making me create a new account. What gives?

  • I just logged in on my phone and the computer with no problems.

  • Are you using the app? The desktop version seems normal, but I just looked at my app and it appears there's been an update (I set all my apps to update automatically). It looks like they want you to sign up for an OverDrive account with an email/password so you can sync your Adobe ID and bookmarks across multiple devices. I ignored the message and clicked "Do this later."

As far as I know this is just an optional thing that some people do for convenience. But who knows, eventually they may force us all to register. It's confusing because we already had to create an Adobe ID and sign in with library cards, and now they also want to add on an "OverDrive account."

  • I'll have to keep in mind to stall updating as long as possible,

  • My app doesn't work anymore.  It says it's connected to my library, and my library is 'chosen,' but it won't let me log into my library to see my stuff - the place to enter my card number and password are disabled.  I can book-surf, but has no options to check a book out, add it to my hold list, or even see if it's available at my library.

I've been logging into my library's OD through their website, which opens directly to my account page and shows all my stuff as if nothing's changed.  I really don't get what happened, and the whole thing irritates me too much to put more effort into figuring out the new format of the app than I already have to figure out how to use it.

  • I haven't had any changes with mine except being unable to delete some books.  I get books from my library that are supposed to expire after x amount of days.  Every once in awhile I'll get a book that won't delete even when I click delete.  It's annoying.  I just want to get rid of them.  That's been going on for a couple of months.

  • My app updated and it made me create a new user name or something but I'm still connected to my library and just took out a new book without an issue.  It's a pain when they update stuff.  Hope it starts working for you!
