does anyone sell clothes to Once Upon a Child?

Any insight into what they look for, as far as seasons go and timing?

I dropped off some clothes there about a month and a half ago, and I was just surprised by what they took/rejected.  For example, they kept a pair of dark khaki corduroy pants and a pair of swim trunks, but gave me back some regular summer shorts in the same size as the swim trunks.  I guess since it was close to April at that point, I would have expected them to take the shorts over the fall/winter pants.

I have another load that I want to take over, and I'm just wondering if I should really sort through it now and save some of the stuff (the more fall/winter things) for another trip, or if that doesn't really matter?

Re: does anyone sell clothes to Once Upon a Child?

  • We don't, but we sure do BUY lots there! I think my husband inquired with them and they are SUPER picky. I don't have much more to offer, sorry.
  • Yeah, they took about 1/3 of what I had dropped off, so they must be pretty picky.  But, I will say that I was pleased with what I got, they kept about 8 items and I got $22.  not too bad for the small amount of effort it took (it's very close to my house)

I could call and ask.  I felt pretty silly last time, I just kind of showed up with a garbage bag full of the stuff. Rookie mistake, I had no idea you had to have it all folded neatly in a laundry basket.  oops.  I mean, my stuff was clean and folded, but you know how things roll around in a bag....fortunately, they still agreed to look at it since it was my first time.  I need to brush up on my consigning skills this time around!

I haven't sold but have bought there. I got the impression that they have all season clothes all the time. So I think they may have rejected the shorts because of some other reason? I have heard they are picky too.

Last year when we were going on vacation in Feb. I went there in January and was able to find tons of summer type clothes for dd. They were the only place carrying that type of stuff that time of year. They seem to always have stuff in each category when I go regardless of season (pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, tanks, short sleeve and long sleeve)

  • I've gone a few times, but have found it to be more hassle than it's worth.  The first time I went I felt they took a decent amount of my stuff and gave me a fair price.  But the next 2 times I went they rejected all but 5 items and the return was so low I rejected it and took my stuff home.  I could have gotten more at a yard sale.

  • All of these consignment stores are similar. They take weird stuff and reject way more than they accept and totally low ball. I had similar experiences at Plato's Closet and Fashion Mentor. Fashion Mentor openly states they will give you 10% of the original price and only accepts name brands. But I see what they accept and scratch my head.

My mom used to try to consign with OUAC and they rejected tons of stuff. My little sisters only wore Gap Kids and Talbots Kids and their clothes were in great condition. She ended up just donating to the church it was such hassle and they took it directly to a church in WV.

  • I have never sold there but I have shopped frequently at all the area locations.  The quality and brands accepted varies greatly by location.  I know the NH store is close by but it might be worth trying Robinson, Monroeville, or West Mifflin if you are going to be in the area.  NH is still my favorite :-)

I don't know about how they so the seasons, so I can't help there. But I have given them a my stuff before. I won't do it again as they gave me hardly anything and it was all good, designer stuff. I was bitter they would be making such a large profit and I got so little. Now I just donate to local charities instead. I do love buying there!
