SBC - Unfinished Category - Language of Flowers (ns)
Read a book from an unfinished category from a previous challenge. Post a review!
The category I chose was "IHO July 4th read a book set somewhere in the USA."
The book I read was, The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, it takes place in the San Francisco Bay area.
I really loved this book. It's told by Victoria a foster child that is abandoned by her mother as a baby and has grown up in the system. It starts the day she turns 18 (present time) and flashes back to her childhood in alternating chapters. The Language of Flowers is from Victorian times and gives each flower a different meaning with which people used to communicate. It was really interesting to learn more about this language through the story of this emotionally wounded child and the way she uses it to relate to other people. I don't want to give away the story but I found it beautiful and engaging. It's my book club's May book that we'll be discussing tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to it. Yes, we're cool and picked about flowers for May
