GTKY: Mother's Day

What do you typically do for your mom for Mother's Day? What about MIL?

Re: GTKY: Mother's Day

  • Currently my MIL and I are not speaking due to her being a psycho and I just don't have the energy to deal with her.  I told H he can deal with her, but I'm refusing to feed into her bullshit anymore after the stunt she pulled on Easter.

Usually I take my Mom out for lunch and shopping, wherever she picks.  Some years she wants to to to the farmer's market and Arby's, other years it's antiquing and the german smokehouse, it's always a wildcard with her.  We go the first weekend in June though because she doesn't like when it's crowded and feels rushed.

  • Honestly we don't so much. The past 2 years mothers days was the day after our wedding and then on our first anniversary. My moms outta town so she gets a phone call, this year she's actually going to be in Mexico at her brother's house. MIL we usually pop in and say hi, we're kinda lame...

  • Both my mil and my mom also have may birthdays. We usually just get flowers for mil and I get a little gift for my mom and then we do something bigger for their birthdays the next week.

  • It depends on the year. My Mom and MIL both live 2-3 hours away so we can't always see them. They always get a call and sometimes I'll chip in with my brother's for a present. This year I had to plan a trip home so I figured why not Mother's Day weekend. We're getting my Mom an Alex & Ani bracelet and I'm cooking a family dinner. H isn't coming with me, but I'll probably try to swing by MIL's and drop off flowers.

  • Normally we just do something small. Maybe a gift card to a restaurant or their favorite store.Sometimes it's just flowers or if we just happen to think of or see something they would like we will do that. We always try to stop by and see them. This year SMIL is getting flowers delivered to her. And for my mom it hasn't been decided yet.
  • My mom's birthday is May 11, which is usually within a day or two of Mother's Day, so I usually get her something (birthday and Mother's Day are separate) or we go out somewhere. I try to make it a big deal, she's always made my birthdays a big deal.

  • I usually get my mom a Kindle card. She loves that thing. My mom isn't big into flowers or frilly things.

H usually sends (read- I usually order) flowers for his mom. She loves it.

  • My siblings and I typically go in on a gift for mom and I'll typically get her flowers. Sometimes we get together and sometimes we don't, it all depends on what is going on with everyone. H doesn't usually remember it's Mother's Day so I have to remind him to call his mother!

  • We get them both a gift. We live near DH's parents now, so last year we went to brunch with his family.
This year is really special :) it's my first Mother's Day as a mama, and Leo is getting baptized that day. We'll have our close family with us that day to celebrate!
  • I usually just do something small and send a card with it. This year, we're having a bbq at our house. My mom will be in Vegas though so I don't know what we'll do for her.
