I'm going to Boston for work next week and looking for suggestions of things to do and places to eat.  If you've ever been there, I'd love to hear what you enjoyed!! :)

ETA-more specifically, I will be staying near Harvard, so suggestions in that area are welcome as well.

Re: Boston?

  • Boston isn't my favorite city ever, but you definitely have to take at least one trip across the river. I went in early May years ago, and Boston Common was absolutely gorgeous. Full of blooming tulips and flowers.

I went to a great ice cream shop in Cambridge, and had fun at a place called Fire and Ice that did a fun Mongolian BBQ (but they had lots of different meats and sauces for grilling, to fit every taste).

  • Email Maria, she is there now.

  • If you are headed to downtown, the North End is the Italian neighborhood. I've never had a bad meal in that area and the cannolis are amazing.

If you want seafood, there are a number of options on the harbor near the aquarium.

You could also head to Boston Common. The area around it and down Commonwealth Avenue has a ton of restaurants and shopping.

It's been too long since I've been there to give specific restaurant advice. My last trip there was in 2006.

  • I went years ago for work and enjoyed doing the touristy stuff.  I walked the Freedom Trail, and loved it.  (I love history stuff like that).   I also enjoyed the market at Fanueil Hall.  (Again it's touristy, but when I'm a tourist, I like doing that stuff!)
  • Love Boston - we like to hang out at the Irish bars but Fanueil Hall, Quincy Market, Freedom Trail & all the tourist places are fun.  Don't be afraid to hop on the T from Harvard and explore - its so easy to get around!

  • Thanks, everyone!  I've never been, so I'm excited.  My mom is coming with me and will just hang out on her own while I'm doing the conference-y parts of the days, so it's nice to hear that there's so much nearby.  we're getting there a day before the conference starts and will have all of the afternoon/evening, I think we may do a ducky tour to get the full feel for the city :)  (my mom has a back injury and can't do a ton of walking, so this seemed like a good way to see it all)

  • Not helpful, but my first stop on a visit to Boston would be Wahlburgers, OF COURSE. :)
