Most/least favorite book in April

Best and worst read of the month...
What made it so amazing or disappointing?

Best - The Darlings by Cristina Alger - the best of a blah month so only 3 stars. But the author's attention to detail made it above average.
Worst - The Full Moon Bride by Shoban Bantwal - an interesting idea, but very poorly written. More of a skim than a read.

Re: Most/least favorite book in April

  • Best - I can't decide between Attachments or The Rosie Project.  Both were 5 stars.

Worst - I don't know why I listen to random people.  Someone told me to read Own the Wind by Kristen Ashley.  OH MY GOD!  I HATED IT.  One star.  I put it on my "Why Did I Finish This" shelf.

  • Best: Locke and Key vol. 5&6- loved the end to this series. Such an incredible story.

Worst: It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini- I just could not get into this. The narrative voice was annoying to me.

Worst - The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin.  So much doom and gloom.

  • Best: The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey (4.5 stars). I really enjoyed it, but I'm pissed I didn't realize it was book 1 of what is going to be a trilogy. Book 2 doesn't even come out until September! (I like to have all the books in a series out first before reading them).

Worst: The Splendour Falls by Susanna Kearsley (2.5 stars), which makes me sad because she's one of my favorite historical fiction authors. This book did nothing for me. I was 70 % into it before I even remotely cared about what was going on or had any desire to find out what happens next.

  • Worst: Seduced by Shadows by Jessa Slade BO-RING. The sex scenes didn't even make up for it.

Best: I can't decide between Jackdaws and Rose under Fire.  Both were excellent.

  • Best - My Beloved World - it was really interesting.

Worst - Happier at Home - I just couldn't connect to it at all.

  • Best- Rizzoli & Isles: Last to Die by Tess Gerritsen. I love this book and am excited to get more!
Worst: The Grapes of Wrath...ugh I am doing this for SBC for the reread and now I remember why I did not enjoy the book in high school. Still slugging through it.
  • Best:  Night Broken, I just love Mercy, it was a great read

Worst:  Lover Unleashed, it wasn't terrible but it was just slow and felt like a filler book in the series.

  • Best: The King. I loved everything about this book. Even the side stories!

Worst: Orange is the New Black. It's probably my fault but I expected it to be more entertaining but I think she was going for a commentary on the prison system. I also didn't like the writing style and the editing could have used some work. And I'm pretty laid back on that type of stuff.

  • Best: Unbroken.  It was such an amazing, inspirational story.

Worst: The People in the Trees.  I think I was just expecting so much more.  It was all sort of predictable and uninspired, though the writing was fantastic.  I gave it 3 stars, so while it was the worst that I read all month, it really wasn't too bad.
  • Best : The Giver by Lois Lowry   I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this read, and I got different things out of it than I did when I was a teenager.

Worst : Kaleidoscope by Danielle Steel  It wasn't bad, just not my usual style.  It was a fast and easy read though.

  • Best: I Am Legend: Richard Matheson. I gave 3 stars, but it was the best out of the five I read in April.

Worst: Sisterhood Everlasting: Ann Brashares. I really enjoyed these books. They were a fun read, until I came to this last book. I was very sad at the way this series ended.

Best: Letters From Skye by Jessica Brockmole.  I absolutely adored this book!!  @SnShne322 recommended the audio and it was wonderful!

Worst: The King by JR Ward.  It wasn't bad, I just didn't love it. I still gave it 3 stars on GR.

Best: The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues by Ellen Raskin or The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

Worst: The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle (I really love her books and was so so disappointed by this one.)

  • Best: Dreams of Gods and Monsters.  It's an amazing story and the writing blew my mind.

Worst: Savage Girl.  Not great writing, unlikable characters, slow moving plot.

  • Best: Tie between Quiet (the introvert book, which was super eye opening) and The Winter Sea (just a lovely read I couldn't put down).

Worst: 61 Hours. It got three stars. Nothing happened for the first half of the book.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • Best:  Attachments by Rainbow Rowell or 14 by Peter Clines.  Impossible to pit one against the other.  One made me feel all the feelings and the other was just quirky and fun and thrilling and mysterious.

Worst:  Love and Lies: Marisol's Story by Ellen Wittlinger -- horrible.  The story was so predictable and the characters were not likable.  This was also the worst narration of any audiobook I've ever listened to.  I was pissed to realize that I bought this in an audible sale more than a year ago.  If I'd not waited so long to listen, I could have returned it for something else.
  • Best - Code Name Verity - it was a beautiful and sad story and so well written

Worst - Chose the Wrong Guy, Gave Him the Wrong Finger - it wasn't bad and I was looking for something light and fun, but I felt like it dragged on and on and the ending was predictable.

  • Best was Morning Glory by Sarah Jio.  Loved the story, another great book by her.

Worst was Snowblind by Christopher Golden.  Didn't like the story, didn't find it scary.

Jessica, Married to Brian 12/27/03, Mom to Alex 6/27/94, Devin 10/29/04, and Emily 1/15/07
  • Best was The Rosie Project - I loved everything about this book.

Worst was Come Away with Me by Kristin Proby (free Kindle read).  It was a case of insta-love, with pretty much no drama at all.  They meet, fall in love immediately, knock boots like bunnies, and then it's over.  They do have a couple paragraphs of misunderstanding that are cleared up immediately, but there just wasn't any conflict and it got boring fast.  Even romances need conflict in the story arc!

  • Best - The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith

Worst - (I only had 3 and 4 stars this month!  Wow!) Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins.  It's wasn't bad.  I just wasn't wowed.

  • Best: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith. I really liked the story and the characters. It was just one of those "feel good" books for me.

Worst: Tangled Beauty by Kristen Middleton. I felt like the author crammed a lot into the book. It was also just a little too predictable for me.

  • Best - The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman.  This was an amazing, imaginative book.  Descriptions of historical events, such as the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, were utterly fascinating.

Worst - Spellbound by Sylvia Day.  Hated it.  Boring and uninspired.
