NBR: Kindle Cover Broke

I have a first generation Kindle with the lighted cover. The cover broke a few weeks ago. I contacted Amazon but since it's "out of warranty" they're unwilling to do anything for me except tell me to buy another one. Except they no longer carry them so all the ones available are used. Sigh.

What Kindle cover do you have? Bonus points if it's pretty. Super bonus points if it has a light.

    Do you mean this one?

If so, I probably still have the covers I had for this one when I got it.  They're not lighted but you could have it if you want.  My first gen got a dark spot on the screen and I upgraded to the first of the keyboard types at that time, but I still have the cover that came with the first gen (black) as well as one that was bought for it by the first owner (red).

  • Wow, this is a complete 180 from the customer service by Amazon that was posted here a few weeks ago.  Is it the outside casing that's broken, or did you shatter the glass?  I had the glass on my iPhone replaced at a place in Tyson's (in front of Restoration Hardware, I can't remember what it's called) and they did a good job for a reasonable price.  One of the 'examples' they have in their case is a Kindle.

@sassypants527 Oh wow, maybe mine isn't first gen after all. It's this one:

@RiverPlate The Kindle itself is fine. It's the cover that's broken. The lighted cover has little metal hooks on the spine that insert into the side of the Kindle. One of the metal hooks snapped off.

  • I have a Marware case that is purple, has a pocket, and a hand strap (so it's comfy to hold while reading. I like it and it was pretty cheap. Doesn't have a light though. That exact thing happened to my kindle case too.

  • I think that's the third gen Kindle Keyboard.   I'm sorry Amazon's customer service wasn't helpful.

I was going to be really impressed if you had a gen 1 Kindle that still worked!

  • I have this one.  It isn't lighted though.  You are welcome to it if you want it (I just have to unearth it - I'm pretty sure I know where it is! :) ).
