We officially hit a milestone (IMO) and owe less than $150,000 on our house!  I feel like every $1,000 that we pay down the principal is a big deal, but whenever it falls below another $10,000 range, it is even more exciting. :) Anybody else have progress they want to share!?

  • That's great!

We refinanced about a year and a half ago. We were 5 years into our 30 year mortgage. We refinanced to a 15 year. We love seeing our balance drop every month!

  • Woohoo! That's awesome! Great progress.

Ours is that we only have 1 more of my Sallie Mae loans left before we tackle H's last student loan.  That will be gone by July at the latest.  Then H's college degree is officially paid for!

  • Awesome, congratulations! :)
  • Congratulations!  If at all affordable, it is almost always a great plan to pay principal down faster.

I'm on a plan to pay my house off within the next 3 years.  Paying off my house will be one of the happiest days of my life and I can't wait!

  • Congratulations!

We haven't made any notable progress lately but we put $250 away for extra on H's loan payments this month and should be able to put another $100 away with the extra from my paycheck next Thursday! $20,500 down and 12,500 to go.

I wish.. I can't wait to sell our house and work on a lower mortgage/interest rate. (We are about a year out from putting it on the market)

Congrats to you though. It is always a good feeling to see the #s drop.

  • Congrats! I can't wait to get to that point!

My only progress is that i'm about to make a 1,500 additional payment to my car which will get it down to a 7,500 balance. Any number closer to 0 makes me happy. I coun't by the thousands - not the ten thousands.

Great news!  Is there some type of spreadsheet that you used to specifically calculate your scenario?  I do various calculators online here and there, but do not have a set plan yet, other than to try to pay all extra towards mortgage.
  • That's Great!!! Congrats.
