  When we switched to cows milk from BM at a year, we were told to only give 16-24 oz a day. At that time, solids should become their main source of nutrition and you don't want them just filling up on milk.
  
  As far as the bottle thing, I think it has a lot to do with their teeth and dental reasons as well as teaching them how to "drink" as opposed to suck.

  We mixed formula and WCM around 12 months to ease the transition over maybe a week or two.  Really, though, he LOVES WCM. We found out that daycare was giving it to him in sippies, so the home transition was super easy.  I think it was a cold turkey situation as far as losing the bottle, but I think because all the other kids were drinking from sippies, he wanted to as well.  I didn't see a need for him to continue to use a bottle, plus, in daycare, they pretty much use sippies past the infant room (which I think is a moot point for you since you don't do daycare, right?).

  i think i did start giving him WCM in bottles at about the same time he would normally take a bottle. but by then he was really dropping those feeds in favor of actual food, so it probably didn't last more than a few days or so. i started trying various sippy cups and that seemed to work ok during the day. we didn't drop a bedtime bottle until somewhat recently, once we recognized that he didn't need to fill his belly any further just to sleep and sleep well. DS grazes on milk all day long and doesn't really drink while eating. which is why i let him graze on his milk as he asks for it, since giving it at marked times doesn't work too well for him. he generally has a cup somewhere in the vicinity and drinks from it at will. if he wants more he will ask for it (well, i guess tell us, since all he says is "mo mo mo" and runs for the fridge). 

  Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!
