HSG: how much did you pay?

For those of you that don't have infertility covered by insurance, how much did you pay for the HSG? I paid 800 upfront for it. I then paid 1000 to a radiology company. Now , 4 months later, I get another bill from the hospital for 1400. It has radiology listed in it too. Is this normal for the test to cost over 3000? You don't have to give me how much you paid if you aren't comfortable, but just wanting to know if this amount is reasonable? Or, should I call the hospital about it?

Re: HSG: how much did you pay?

  • I would call the hospital about it.  When I asked about all of the expenses, they told me the HSG portion would be $1,600.

  • Well my answer probably won't be very helpful.  Infertility treatment wasn't covered by my insurance, but the HSG and testing was and I paid a little over $200 for it.  But mine was done by my RE.  I would think if you already paid the radiology bill, that the hospital one shouldn't have it listed as well?

  • Ditto PPs that I'd contact the hospital since it sounds like you're being billed for radiology twice.

My insurance covers just about any testing out there, so all I had to pay was a $75 hospital fee since it was done there rather than in my doc's office.

  • I don't have fertility treatment coverage, but my insurance does cover diagnosis and treatment of problems related to infertility (which includes HSG since it was diagnosing infertility). I think I paid like $500-600 or something. I can't remember for sure. I'd definitely call on it.. that seems high

I did get insurance to cover most of it, but prior to that I was billed $1300.
