Re: Weekend Accountability

  • How spendy was your weekend?
We went to St Louis to visit some of H's family.  So we spent $85 on eating out. :-(  Then about $100 on gas.
I told H we're going to tell our friends and family that we're not traveling for 2 years.  They want to see us, then they're going to have to come to us till we're debt free.

Any progress toward your goals?  Not since last weeks amount into savings.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with?  Groceries for sure.  This month I'm doing the envelope system instead and hoping that helps keep me on track.

    1) H moved in on Saturday, so we spent about $130 on groceries to stock up.  We both made an effort to eat down a bunch of stuff the last few weeks so that we could re-stock with food we both eat.  We actually came in a bit under budget.

    2) No real progress on goals this week.

    3) I find it hardest to stick to the eating out budget.  I work in a building with some awesome restaurants on the first floor, and it's awfully tempting to eat lunch out.

  • How spendy was your weekend? It wasn't that bad. We spent $20 on lunch Saturday and $10 on groceries for Saturday night.

Any progress toward your goals? Yes! Added more to our housing/savings fund. Also went house hunting again on Saturday and had a good day. We are putting an offer on a house today!! I'm trying not to get excited, but it's hard not to.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with? I would say maybe food. It always seems to cost more than we want to spend, and then we ended up needing stuff during the week too. We were able to offset it since we gave ourselves more than we needed for our gas budget, but now gas is going up.

  • Im baaaaack!

    1. How spendy was your weekend? Well I got home late Saturday night from Florida so Sun AM I had to get some allergy meds, a Mothers Day card and gift....about $60 maybe

    2. Any progress toward goals? I will be transferring $ this week into house DP, vacay, or savings account.

    3. Hardest category to not spend in is the "shopping" category. Whether it be for myself/H, household stuff or random stuff that we buy when we've used all our spending money, we just always seem to go over or not budget for it properly. Also, the vet category...you just never know with my dog.

  • How spendy was your weekend?
Let's see...$60 dining out on Friday, $10 at McDonalds (but that included a $5 donation...), $100 for groceries. I think that's it.

    Any progress toward your goals?
    Not particularly.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with?
Food...as you can probably tell from how spendy our weekend was, haha. I blame H. I never used to go out to eat much except for special occasions. His family eats out all the time so he's developed a habit.

  • 1.  We spent $45 on brunch Saturday, and I spent $15 on lunch Sunday.  Both were within our fun budget.  I also spent $60 on groceries-slightly over budget to take advantage of sales.  Not too bad overall.

    2.  I was able to cut spending in other areas to put an extra 2% of my paycheck into my Roth IRA.  We're also continuing to stock up on spending money for our trip, putting all other savings except retirement on hold for now but maintaining the standard overpayment on H's car.

    3.  "Fun" definitely!  We get invited to a lot of parties, dinners outs, concerts, beer festivals, etc. and it's really hard to keep turning friends down.  Plus, we like to do a lot of this stuff.  I still struggle with how to justify saying no to events when the only reason is financial.  I learned in my early 20s that admitting that is the reason leads to very hard feelings.

How spendy was your weekend? Could have been better. We spent $400 on plane tickets to Colorado for my brother's high school graduation (it would have been more $ but we were able to use some points from our credit card on part of the purchase), and then I ordered pizza ($25) on Saturday because I was too lazy from working on the yard all day to cook dinner.

Any progress toward your goals? Not really. We've been having a rough time keeping on track lately for some reason. We've really got to get back into the swing of things.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with? For us I would say house stuff, for sure, especially now that the weather is warming up. I'm not great on this myself since I love gardening/decorating, but DH is really bad, haha. He can go to Home Depot for one thing and come back with the entire bed of his truck filled with stuff (like last week he went to get a specific drill bit that he needed and he came back with a bunch of plants, garden soil, mulch, a hose, a new ceiling fan...and he forgot the drill bit that he went there for in the first place, haha)
  • 1. Long, out of town weekend. Big brother turned 40! We did keep everything under $400. Hotel and plane tickets with points and FF miles.

    2. Nope.

    3. Clothing for me. I like the expensive stuff. Food for H, he likes the expensive stuff too. He's better than me, he never spends on anything other than food.
  • How spendy was your weekend?
Friday we stayed in. Saturday we went to a ducks unlimited event, which was free admission, but we participated in the fund raising raffle (DH wanted a chance at winning the gun) so that was $260 which was un-budgetted, but we figured it out when we got home. Sunday we stayed home and did a lot of projects around the house.

    Any progress toward your goals?
College fund should have started auto-deducting from the checking account this month, so that's progress.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with?
Baby stuff. I tend to stock up on formula when I can find it at Sams club (they run out a lot)- so I may buy a months worth at a time. Or I will find a clothing sale at BRU or something and go a bit over board, but I can always stay on track over 2 months or so.
Groceries can be a bit more of a challenge as summer comes around because we like throwing parties and having people over, so I know that I have to start watching that a bit more.

How spendy was your weekend? Just groceries ($160). DD#2's birthday and party was on Saturday so we had a busy weekend getting everything ready and enjoying the day with her. She got a lot of clothes, some books, a few toys, and $150 for her bank account.

Any progress toward your goals? Nothing new. The sewer job is done ($6,500) and we're getting some money saved up to replace some wood siding on the house and new columns for the side entrance this summer.
We got some amazing news about our redistricted plan for our schools. The girls were rezoned to a different middle school that's in a really nice neighborhood! We're so happy and as long as things stay this way, we won't need to move. DH now wants to gut the upstairs bathroom next summer, so we'll start planning for that.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with? Probably groceries and clothes for the girls- we try our best to be good, but sometimes we get a little crazy. The only consolation is that we don't eat out a lot and anything we buy for DD#1 is saved for DD#2.

  • How spendy was your weekend? Pretty Cheap! We went to a funeral so paid out about $40 in unplanned gas for the car and the $50 for a dinner out with friends who lived in that area. It ended up being a cheaper trip than we thought. Being so sad to eat breakfast and lunch while on the road really helped.

Any progress toward your goals? We finished the e fund and put $250 towards the next loan. I will be able to use $250 from this weeks paycheck as well for SL and I can't wait!

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with? I have no problems with any of it. H on the other hand is finally realizing how much he spends on beer and has really cut back all on his own which is fantastic.

  • 1 - bad.  We had a very busy weekend.  DH had 2 weddings to work and I had 1 wedding.  We ate out a few times because of no time to cook or meal plan.  I went to the grocery store and stayed in budget with that, spent $190 on groceries.  We also saw spiderman on Friday night.

2 - Yes.  I put $100 in our retirement fund.  Just booked a funeral today which was unexpected :)

3- eating out.  I like being waited on.

  • How spendy was your weekend?

Kinda pricy... I went to a pampered chef party and spend a little more but I'm excited to use my new gadgets! We got lunch Saturday and breakfast Sunday... Then went over on groceries. We were out of a lot...

    Any progress toward your goals?

Changed my payment for sl#2 to $850/mon. Omg it was so hard to put that amount in there! Yay snowball but wow...

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with?

Um, eating out. It's so easy to go grab something!

How spendy?  Paid cash for everything, did pull $100 out of vacation, etc to go on a meat run to get brisket and brats for my birthday party.  First time slow cooking a brisket on the grill, it turned out great and we had left overs for Sunday.

Progress towards goals?  Not really, MW and I get paid on on the 15th and the end of the month which is when we figure out what we are going to do.

I am a spendthrift, so the hardest account to not touch is our vacation, gift, fun checking account.  I am having MW put her extra money into her smarty pig account thus I can't see it.  For the most part, I am on a cash only basis since if I don't do this I tend to overspend on everything including groceries.
  • How spendy was your weekend?
I haven't added it up yet, I was traveling for work, so it felt spendy...but I think I spend $12 on a martini and $9 on a beer (including tip)...I think everything else I spent is reimbursable by work
    Any progress toward your goals?
after realizing that we had done our 2012 taxes incorrectly we got another $1600 back...yay for paying for house projects with CASH!
What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with?
we set a tight budget for eating out...thats the budget we're off on most often. :/

  • How spendy was your weekend? I don't think I want to talk about it. I didn't realize how much we were going to spend this weekend. Nothing crazy, but we did spend close to $200 of unbudgeted items that were placed on a credit card.

Any progress toward your goals? We did put in about $70 into various accounts, but then I had to transfer over $70 from our e-fund to cover some of the items we overspent.

What category in your budget do you find the hardest to stay on track with? I realized it's mostly eating out. Some weeks we do fine, but most of the time we go out and grab lunch or breakfast during the weekend. I don't want to change the budget to offset it, so we will keep it the way it is and hopefully learn to curve that.

  • 1. This weekend wasn't bad. My birthday was yesterday so we splurged this weekend and went out to eat at my favorite restaurant and ordered drinks - still was only 44 though -budgetted 50, then we spent 19 at the movies - we budgetted 10 because i had a giftcard but stupid me forgot it at home.

    2. I made a 1600 principle only payment to my car on friday- then ofcourse on saturday DH gets a call that his grandfather isn't doing well and now we are gonna have to pull the money out of the Emergency fund to go up for the funeral because i ran us dry with that payment. But i should be thankful because normally this kind of thing would have ended up on a credit card.

    3. My husbands spending money.
