Talk to me about body pillows?

I have been getting hip pain at night - I'm a stomach sleeper, and finding that it's causing me pain. When this happens, I've been putting a pillow between my legs and that has been helping. Will a body pillow help with this? And ladies who have given birth or who are further along, did you find that one helped you when you couldn't sleep on your stomach or back anymore?  What brands did you like?

Re: Talk to me about body pillows?

  • I just bought a cheap body pillow from target and this fuzzy pillow cover. The pillow between the knees worked until my belly got big and laying on my side hurt me belly so I could put the body pillow in between my knees and prop my belly up on it and wrap my arms around. It was nice and I had to use it afterwards to prop my deflated belly up while I slept.

  • They absolutely help. I needed something between my legs and either supporting my belly or keeping me from bein flat on my back. I used two pillows. One was a regular body pillow and one was a king size pillow. I put one on either side of me at night so I didn't need to readjust everything all the time. It worked pretty well for me.

  • I have the Snoogle and it was worth the $45 I spent on it. For a while just the snoogle was enough, but now I'm doing something similar to what alexisanna described. Basically the snoogle on one side and a pillow on my other side. It lets me sleep not completely on my side but sort of rotated toward my back a little. The snoogle between my knees definitely helps with hip pain.

  • I did what wiggy did too. I bought the cheap body pillow and cover a few years ago. Pregnant I love it!

  • Ditto to everything wiggy said. I have a basic $10 body pillow and use it every single night. It goes between my legs and now that I am this far along I prop my belly up on it most of the time. I don't have a Snoogle or one of the more expensive pregnancy pillows but I know they run pretty high on cost. The body pillow has been just fine for me all the way through.

  • I had a basic body pillow and it did fine for me until about 20 weeks when I started getting uncomfortable. I switched to the snoogle and it's been wonderful! I was a stomach sleeper and the snoogle helps me to sort of still sleep in that position while keeping my hips and belly supported.

  • I've been dealing with hip pain for a while. I have a regular pillow between my legs and a smaller pillow under my belly. I probably should have bought the snoogle months ago when I was looking at it, but didn't and now have a hard time justifying the expense only to get a few months use of it. Plus, DH and I have a queen size bed and I already feel like there's not enough room.

This exactly. I have a small pillow between my knees right now and it already crowds us. If I start getting hip pain there really won't be any room for a snoogle or body pillow! Hoping it stays away, for many reasons...

  • I am just now getting to the point where I wish I had a body pillow but I refuse to buy one at this point in my pregnancy.  I'll just continue to steal H's pillow's once he falls asleep and stuff them around my belly and back.
