SBC: Read a Book Whose Movie Version You Have Seen: Oliver Twist

I've seen multiple adaptations of this book, each of which was a little bit different, so it was nice to finally read the source material.  I'm not usually a giant fan of Dickens (with the exception of A Tale of Two Cities which I love) but I was pleasantly surprised by Oliver Twist.  The characters were well written and often hilarious.  The plot was a little bit hard to follow at the end (when it is revealed that all the Good Guys are related and can live happily ever after) but I feel like that's what you'd expect from Dickens.  Overall I enjoyed it, and it was certainly more complete than the film adaptations I have seen.

  • I listened to this on audiobook last year and was also pleasantly surprised. Like you I'm not normally a huge Dicken's fan but this one held my interest. For me I thought the narrator had a lot to do with my liking it but it's good to hear that the writing also probably played a role :)
