    Ditto!
  • Thanks for all the well wishes!  Having a newborn is apparently very time consuming so I haven't had much time to surf the internets!  ;)  I've finally come to share my long @ss story, so read if you wish!  lol

So last Tues (May 6th) I got home from work around 5:45 and was snacking on some tortilla chips on the couch when I felt a strange little gush "down there", I got up to go to the bathroom to check things out.  By the time I got to the bathroom, it had soaked through my pants.   It didn't really seem like a lot of liquid and I was pretty sure it wasn't pee, but wasn't totally sure it was my water breaking.  I called Stu at work to tell him what happened and then called the Dr. Office. The Dr on call told me to come into the labor & delivery and they would test my fluid and go from there.  Stu got home from work about 30-45 minutes later because he had to wait for someone to come in and take charge of the store  and was all crazy and frantic,  I surprising was just really calm!  We grabbed some last minute things and headed to the hospital.

When we got there,  they were crazy busy and didn't have a l&d room available,  so they put us in some other room and just told us to wait there while they cleaned a room up for me.  As we were sitting there I felt another big gush and Stu told me there was all this liquid pooling in my lap!  He then told me I needed a napkin, so I started cracking up laughing (which made it worse) but at least I was sure it was my water breaking that time!  A nurse came in a little later to ask us some questions and hooked me up with towel.  Prior to my water breaking I hadn't really be feeling any contractions, I had been having some random cramping and braxton hicks for about a week prior though. I started feeling some mild contractions though after the big burst.

They finally got me moved into a real room and once they got me hooked up to the monitors and settled, the Dr came in to check me.  At the time, I was 10% effaced and 2 cm dilated.  They said since my water broke first that normally meant that labor was probably going to be pretty long and slow, so they'd continue to check me every couple hours and if I wasn't naturally progressing they would start me on pitocin.  Well, after a few more checks I was stuck at 3 cm for several hours so they gave me the pitocin around 3:30 am.  They said they'd be back in a few hours to check on me but they were so busy that I think they just never got to me.  The contractions started getting pretty uncomfortable around 5:00 am so the nurse called the anesthesiologist in to get me an epidural, things felt pretty great after that, haha!

At 7:00 am, they had a shift change so the new on call Dr and nurses came by and introduced themselves.  The monitor hooked up to check my contractions didn't seem to be working properly, so the Resident Dr. kept saying he was going to come back and they would hook me up to some sort of internal monitor to measure my contractions, but he and a nurse were never free at the same time to come in and do it.  Around 10:00 am I starting feeling pain during my contractions again, so I buzzed the nurse to see if I could 1-up my epidural I did and it didn't seem to be working much.  I was getting kind of worried that the epi wasn't working.  Then a little later I had to use the bathroom, so I buzzed for the nurse again so they could come in and cath me or make me use a bed pan or something horrible like that.  While I was waiting for the nurse to come in, one of the on call Dr's poked her head in because she noticed my call light was on.  I told her what was up and now I felt like I had to pee and poop.  Although she was supposed to have someone else in the room to do a cervix check, she decided to check me anyway and I she was like, "Oh, what you're feeling is the urge to push, not poop! You're 100% effaced and fully dilated!"  I think I was in shock, then they told me to wait and not push and wait what felt like forever.  Around 11:00 am they let me start pushing and on 5/7/14 at 12:24 pm Maxwell Jonas was born!  It got a little scary at the end because it just felt like there were so many people in the room and they were saying things about the baby having tachycardia (fast heart rate) and they were saying things about getting him out quickly.  We ended up getting a little help from a vacuum.   Once he came out they put him up on my chest and I think Stu and I almost hyperventilated :)  They checked the baby out and he was perfect!   I had a 2nd degree tear so they had to work on fixing me up for what felt like forever.  They also noticed my IV wasn't working so I had a nurse frantically pricking me in multiple new spots trying to get a new IV line in, that was loads fun!

All in all, I think I was very lucky and had a pretty quick and easy experience, especially for being a FTM!   I really am surprised at how good I'm feeling despite the circumstances!

Max is just the cutest thing ever (I may be a little biased though) and he is doing great!

He is adorable!! A was also vacuumed out. After three hours of pushing, they could have used my Dyson and I would have been happy just to get him out of me.

Haha, I returned two China sets that I had received as a wedding gift and then used gift cards from my bridal shower to get it.
