Mid-Cycle Spotting

I know a few of you ladies have mentioned mid-cycle spotting or spotting quite a few days before your period arrives. When you say spotting, do you mean enough that you need a panty liner or you just see it when you wipe? And do you ever have clots outside of your period?

Re: Mid-Cycle Spotting

  • With my mid-cycle spotting it is all over the place. Sometimes I need a liner, sometimes it is just when I wipe, and sometimes there are clots. This is my unfortunate norm.

Sometimes its heavier than others, but its always a 3-4 days before my actual period. I dont get any clots before my period. I never had pre-period spotting before my IUD though. My cycle returned to normal after my first post IUD period. It was pretty predictable right away. Then after about 6 months I started with the spotting before my period. No idea whats up with that, but its annoying.

  • My spotting changes, some days I might need a liner other days it's only when I wipe. USUALLLY right before my period I need a liner for like 2-3 days but recently my body has decided to mix it up on me. I've spotted from 4 DPO - 13 DPO before also and had no progesterone issues.
I do not ever have clots before AF.

I had a lot of issues with mid-cycle spotting between my pregnancies. I'd usually spot from 4DPO or so all the way to my period. Usually it was when I wiped or just enough to need a panty liner. A few cycles I'd have full fledged bleeding (enough to bleed through my pants), but no clots. I ended up going back on BCP for a few cycles to see if it would reset my hormones, and it definitely helped.

  • Thanks for sharing, ladies!

I'm just so confused with what my body is doing right now. I started having a little pink discharge on Sunday (CD14) and then on Monday (CD15) it started varing between red and light brown. Today it is doing more of the same thing. It hasn't been enough for a liner or anything though. I keep thinking it is going to get heavier because I have had some mild cramping but it seems to be staying the same for now. I've never ever had mid-cycle spotting before so this is new for me.

I did have to take Provera last month for the first time in years so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. I still never had issues with spotting on Provera in the past though. Then again, I wasn't on Metformin when I had taken it before so maybe that is part of it.

    I'm just all confuzzled :-/

  • It's possible at that point in your cycle it could be ovulation pains and spotting.

Although, if I'm remembering correctly you don't have regular cycles.  On my long cycles I would have random spotting constantly.  It sucked, and there was really no answer for it.

Yeah...my cycles seem to be all over the place. I would be thrilled if the spotting was from ovulation. I haven't been temping or anything this cycle though so I can't know for sure.
