Yay for Library Summer Reading Programs!

So I just found out my local library will be doing an adult summer reading program :) I'm super excited because they didn't do one last year but the place we previously lived always did them. For every five books you read you get your name entered in a drawing for prizes at the end. They said books over 300 pages count as 2!

I used to love doing this stuff as a kid and I'm so glad that most libraries seem to find ways to let adults in on the fun.

What about you guys? Do your libraries do any cool summer reading programs (kids or adults)?

Re: Yay for Library Summer Reading Programs!

  • We have a children's summer program.  They strive for I think about 20/25 books before they get a prize.  They also get entered weekly if they go to the Library for a small raffle and they have bi-weekly activities related to the "themes" of the weeks.  It was our first year doing it last year.

Our library did one last year for adults, and you had to enter all your books in online. I didn't win anything. I think they only game a prize to the person who read the most books. I also kept forgetting to add my books on their website. haha! They don't have anything up yet for this years, hopefully soon!

I just signed up for our summer book program. It's 2000 pages and then you are entered into a contest for 1 of 3 prizes that you pick when you register. I can't wait to start !

  • Ours has kid and adult summer programs. I'm so excited to sign the kids up. This is the first time they'll be able to do the summer program and DS is really excited. (We moved so we have a new library this summer.) I want to sign up for the adult program too. I haven't had a chance to look into what all the prizes are.

  • Ours does one too that I hope will be starting soon! I think its similar, for every 4 books you read you get to enter yourself for one of maybe 3 or 4 prize packs.  You choose what you enter yourself for. And then for every 12 books you read you get a free book!
