Bachelorette party ideas

One of my best friends from college is getting married 5/31. She is finishing her English PhD. Our other best friend from college and I are planning a "bachelorette party" in Pittsburgh on Memorial Day Saturday. She (nor us since the other girl going also has 2 kids) doesn't want the going out clubbing bachelorette party.

So, help me with ideas on what to do, something fun to do for a Saturday early evening/night

  • One of my favorite "girls night out" things to do is to go to Color Me Mine and paint something.  You could do dinner at a nice place and then go paint pottery, or go to one of the places where you paint on canvas that seem to be popping up everywhere.

For my sister's last year, we went to the Pittsburgh Winery and did a tasting. It is a really neat place and we bought a couple bottles and went downstairs and hung out. Then we went to dinner. We then went to Charlie Murdochs which was super fun and if you go before 8 you can reserve a table.

For my other sister's, we went to dinner then they hired the Pittsburgh Water Limo for a private party (we did meet up with my BIL and his friends for this)

My sister's bff is getting married and they are going to Bedford Springs overnight. She found a spa deal and they to get a spa treatment, hang by the pool and have dinner.

  • So, did you want the night to revolve around getting her PhD?  Ditto Amber on the girls night out paint places - I have been hearing a lot about how fun they are.   You can never go wrong with a spa day (I love Osiris).  Maybe instead of going "clubbing" you could go do different restaurants - one place for drinks/apps, the next for dinner, the next for dessert.
  • Not necessarily around her PhD (that's this December) but her English PhD fits her personality well.

Just mostly looking for suggestions as to what to do that Saturday to celebrate as a "bachelorette party"

  • I recently went to Painting with a Twist in Robinson and it was a lot of fun. They often host bachelorette parties. You bring your own beverages.

Lurker here - but wanted to say that those painting places fill up quick. Since the wedding is so soon, I doubt you will be able to get into one now.

For my sisters bachelorette in a few weeks we are going to Sing Sing in the Waterfront.

I love dessert at Monterey Bay.  Every one of them is so good.  It would be fun to go out to eat somewhere (SS, downtown, St. Sq) and then go up to Mt. Washington to conclude the evening with some champagne and dessert.  I've never gone to just the bar but I'm thinking you might be able to get a nice table there without a reservation.

For a painting party I have a friend that is a professional artist.  She can do these parties.  I think she comes to your house or whatever location you want.  If you go this route and need someone lmk and I can give you her info.

Narcisi winery is also a great place.

There might also be some places doing salsa dancing.  Usually they start with a lesson and then you can just sit back, have a drink, and enjoy the latin music and watching some really good dancers--or giving it a try yourselves.

Narcisi is a good idea but I don't know what they are currently doing since they had a kitchen fire on Sunday and had to evacuate. But they do a lot of great things in the spring/summer. I used to work down the street.
