Do you get a lot of new authors trying to friend you on GR?

I've gotten about 10 in the last two weeks that are following my reviews and friending me.  Is this common?  It hasn't happened to me in however many years I've been on GR but it's happening a lot lately.

I get them a lot on Twitter.

  • I get them on Goodreads. I don't approve them unless it's an author I've interacted with in the past.

I also get a lot of new authors that follow me on Twitter, but I've noticed that if I don't follow them back, some of them end up unfollowing me later.

Occasionally. I find it a little off-putting unless they seem genuinely interested in sharing book reviews because we have the same favorite books or something.  I don't normally accept requests from people I don't know IRL or on here.
Although I am friends with some girl named Joyce that I thought was Hoycie when I accepted the request, but turned out to be a random. I've actually gotten some good recs from her that I haven't heard about on here, so I guess it works out sometimes??
