Cell Phone

Can we talk cell phones?  Our contract/phones are up for renewal/upgrade next month.  I'm trying to decide if we should stay with Verizon or try to find a better deal.

Who is your provider?
How is your service?
How much do you pay for 2 phones?
Have you recently switched?  Good choice?  Or did you regret it?

Thanks all!

We have AT&T. The service has vastly improved, and I would say I rarely drop calls/can't get signal.  I don't think it is any more than any other service.

I have no idea how much we pay.  It's all wrapped up with my phone, DH's, his Dad's and several of the guys he works with.  (Business plan, I guess.)

We switched years ago when the iPhone first came out. Service has improved dramatically since then.

  • Who is your provider?  Verizon
How is your service?  Good.  I get bad service in my house, but other people with different providers do, too, so I think it's just the area for some reason.
How much do you pay for 2 phones? $157/month that's with unlimited talk and text, 3 GB shared data between me and Brian.  That's with some type of Pitt discount, but I can't remember how much.  Not a huge amount, maybe $10 off a month or something.
Have you recently switched?  Good choice?  Or did you regret it? Nope, I've had verizon since I first bought a cell phone in college!

  • Verizon, our service is good. But like Emmy my house is some sort of magical cell service repelling zone (in its defense, there are a lot of thick block walls in the structure and a 14 x3 ft chimney in the middle).  I still get calls but often find myself on the 1x service rather than 3 or 4 G.

I have no idea what our bill is, Kev pays that one and he gets a stipend for work for his phone.

I have had verizon for ever, K had a brief time with a Sprint plan but eventually switched over after the wedding when they started offering family plans more and we had discounts through work.
  • Provider: Verizon

Service: Good.  We never have any issues.

Price:  I'm not really sure, as Rich takes care of that.  My guess is $150-175.

Switch: We switched to Verizon about 2 years ago.  We only switched to get the iPhone because we had TMobile and they didn't have the iPhone at the time.  We've been happy with Verizon, but were also happy with TMobile.

  • Provider: AT&T
Service: Good - we really have no issues. Maybe a dropped call once in a great while, but nothing where I notice it and am annoyed by it.
Price: $150ish for two iPhones (we have an old plan with 550 minutes to share, unlimited nights/weekends, unlimited text and each have 3GBs of data). This does include a work discount.
We switched in 2006 and I've always been pleased. We had Tmobile before, a local carrier in Cincinnati and I used Verizon in college (who I hate with a fiery passion). Always before I'd get irritated at some point with call quality, dropped calls or something, but we've been fine with AT&T.

    Provider: AT&T

Service: Good, we have had no issues. We left briefly to go to Sprint and they were horrible. We went back to AT&T, well Cingular but then AT&T. I have had AT&T since they were Cellular 1.

Price: With taxes and everything it is $185 a month for two (2) iPhones. We have 10 GBs of  data, unlimited text, 1200 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends.

  • Provider: Sprint
Service: Good, we've both had Sprint since like 2000. The signal can be a bit patchy around Pittsburgh, but they're upgrading it right now, so it's getting better
Price: DH gets a stipend for work, and so we have extra daytime minutes, I think it's $120 a month for both phones, unlimited data/text/evening and weekend minutes, and extra anytime minutes

We had been talking about switching to Verizon because Sprint is one of the smaller carriers and the signal wasn't great around here. But they're upgrading the towers and adding more, so the signal issue is a lot better, and I would guess that next time we can get the discounted replacement phones (I think about 6 months from now) we'll probably just renew again, I don't think there's any real reason to switch.
  • Provider: Straight Talk
Service: good! unlimited text, data, and  minutes
    Price: $50/mo
no contract. pay month to month (i do auto payment)

too good to be true right??  that's what i was thinking but it has worked out great. i read terrible reviews about it online before i got it. but i think it was mainly poor customer service. my inlaws all have it and love it so i figured i'd give it a try. and i'm glad i did! i got a phone from their website a samsung something or other. it was like $150. there was pic with a map showing good coverage.  some people complained about the coverage area so  i got that phone instead of a super cheap phone and things have been fine!
  • Verizon - have had it for more than 15 yrs

    2 phones (DH and me)

Too much. AKA: About $170/mo (that's with my company's 20% discount)

Unlimited texts, calls, and 3GB data (I just changed to this last month bc both DH and I use our phones for work and it was the first month we went over on everything; he gets reimbursed about $30/mo, I don't get anything.)

    Very little interruption/dropped calls

  • Who is your provider?  AT& T - have had this since we switched to iphones % or so yrs ago.  I had verizon for work which I liked but now just AT&T.

How is your service?  Much better - same complaint about portions of my house but we used to have a dead zone on the main drag right outside my neighborhood but its seems to be alot better lately.

How much do you pay for 2 phones? $150-160/month includes unlimited data (we grandfathered into that one), 1500 minutes between us but only 200 texts a month between us)

Have you recently switched?  Good choice?  Or did you regret it?
No but we need to switch out our phones soon so I'm looking but my husband swears we will never get a deal with unlimited data again so we should stick with AT&T.
