TGIF

What's going on this weekend? Any good MD plans?

We are going to do breakfast with just the three of us then do a relaxing afternoon and first pool day of the year in the yard with some bubbly beverages and an ice cream trip later on.

H will be going to his moms sometime in the afternoon while I hang with the kiddo. Of course there was a high level of drama surrounding that mess, as expected. Idk why but MIL keeps trying to plan parties for herself at our house. So bizarre.

  • ZeroOrchestra!

Tonight we are doing dinner as it would have been my dad's birthday today.

Tomorrow I'll be out shopping with my BFF and her daughter. Then we have a games night with some friends.

Sunday I have tickets to go see the Backstreet Boys! I am school girl giddy excited! :D

My mom hates going out for Mother's Day because of the crowds, and usually we do brunch/dinner at my sister's, but my sister is in the middle of a move, so I think we're going out for dinner later in the week. (My place is off limits as I have cats and my sister is allergic.) DH is having his mom and bro over for dinner, but I'll be at the concert.
  • Hi. We are dog sitting this weekend so just hanging out around the house. I have to work tomorrow morning too.

No MD plans. I'm not a mom and my mom is 1200 miles away. We flew up last weekend to H's family and I stopped by my parents for dinner on my way back from a bridal shower though.

I had a mom wish me a happy mother's day after school today and it was really awkward. I was leaving and she said it to me and then said "You're a mom, right?" .... no. "Oh, well happy mother's day to be then!" I think she was just stumbling to save herself at that point, but it was really awkward and I was a little annoyed even though I try not to be the easily offended type.

We got a late flight to Seattle (got in at 10pm) on Friday and the best flight back home was a red eye leaving at 10:30. We visited our friend (lives about 1 1/2 hours from Seattle). It wasn't the ideal weekend because it was cut short. And if we go again we'll do things a little bit differently. But we had fun and were happy to see our friend. I highly recommend the Flight Museum. Its massive and worth the money (lots of bang for your buck). They even have a tour of the Boeing plant that we didn't go on. You can easily spend most of a day there. We spent about half a day. The original starbucks is small. We walked through Pikes place (would have liked to spend a bunch of time there) and saw the gum wall. The Aquarium was overpriced. A lot of it was closed for renovation. Even if it wasn't under renovation it's on the expensive side (and not the best one we've visited). Wandering around city center and the space needle are worth it.

A lot of people were celebrating mothers day on saturday. We all found this odd. Im with two guys (H and Friend) and people kept wishing me a happy mothers day saturday. That was strange for me.

H and I spent all day Sunday recuperating from getting home at 6am. Latter that night we both called our moms to wish them a happy mothers day.
  • @erollis, the Experience Music Project museum in Seattle is also really cool - if you go again, check it out :)

@olywillis we passed by it and it was a work of art from the outside. Next time we will have to check it out and some of the other museums that are there.

I'm actually heading to Seattle, so this is great info! How long would you have liked to spend in Pike Place? I'm trying to do up a rough itinerary, but I don't know anyone who knows the city that well to ask these kinds of questions.

City center has a few museums, sculptures, and a park. There are some hotels that I noticed within walking distance to city center. You could probably spend an entire or most of a day at the museums there.

As for pikes place Market it's about 3 stories of shops and places to eat. I could have wandered around for a couple of hours. I would say it's equivalent to china town in San Fran. Plus there are places to eat at Pikes place. The gum wall is also there along with the original Starbucks.

Across from pikes place is the Ferris wheel, carousel, tour boats/ dinner cruises, some more places to eat, and the aquarium. The aquarium is not worth it.

The air museum is fantastic. But it's outside of the city but worth it if you can make it.

There is a city pass you can buy if you plan on going to the attractions it includes. This is the only way I would go to the aquarium again if I bought one of these.

City center is not walking distance to pikes place and you'll need to take public transport to get between the two.

Parking is horrendous. So if you rent a car to go outside the city keep it at the hotel until you need it. Not only is parking a challenge but will get expensive. I do think parking on weekends after 6pm is free at pay station parking. At least it was on Saturday. All the paystation parking is for x number of hours. Some are for up to 2,3,or 4 hours. It states if you must back up into a spot or not and where to place the sticker on your car. It's very different from Houston in that you can park your car any direction and just put the sticker on the dash.
  • I agree - it's very difficult to park in Seattle and very congested at rush hour times on the freeways. But I would get a car or take public transportation to see other spots outside of just Pike Place and such. I could spend all day there, really, but I like perusing shops, eating, looking at things, etc. :) I actually enjoy going to Uptown Espresso in the Lower Queen Anne district whenever I am there. http://www.yelp.com/biz/uptown-espresso-seattle-5.

We also visited Jimi Hendrix's gravesite but that is outside of Seattle in Renton, WA. I believe there is a memorial in the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle though. Also Kurt Cobain's old house is next to Viretta Park, where there is also a memorial for him. http://www.yelp.com/biz/viretta-park-cobain-memorial-seattle.

Another museum I like is the Asian Art Museum - http://www.yelp.com/biz/seattle-asian-art-museum-seattle

    Hope you have fun!

Since our trip got cut short I want to go back. H is ready to go visit another city we haven't been to yet. I'm also pushing NY city (since we haven't been and to see family) but H isn't sold on this idea.
  • Thanks for the tips @olywillis and @erollis! I'm putting together the itinerary, so I will definitely give more time to Pike Place and add in the air museum. We'll have a car, but our hotel is central enough that we can walk around for the most part or take public transit.
