Do you ever change your Goodreads ratings?

I've been doing some GR shelf organizing and have come across several ratings that made me wonder "what was I thinking".  I've found a bunch of books rated five stars that I can't imagine why I would have rated them that high, given that a year or two in the future I can barely remember the plot.  Do you ever go back and change ratings from years past?

Re: Do you ever change your Goodreads ratings?

  • Rarely, but yes.  Sometimes if I rate a book 4 stars and I'm still thinking about it a week later, I'll bump it to 5.

Yup.  I review and rate books as soon as I finish them, but I often feel like that really isn't the appropriate time to be rating.  Sometimes I need to decompress a little bit and talk about the book a little, or even read other people's reviews, because sometimes hearing another take on it can effect the way that I think about a book.  I'm not saying always, but sometimes if I feel torn about a book, that stuff can swing me one way or the other.

Occasionally, usually to drop the rating.

  • Once in a while, I went back and downgraded my Allegiant review because the more I thought about it and talked to my BFF, the more angry I got.

  • I do it for re-reads.  I also do it for books I read recently but after a few days either something has stuck with me or bothered me so I may change it.

Nearly all of my re-rating happens within 6 weeks of reading.

The biggest reason I write my reviews is as a message to my future self. I definitely have some "What was I thinking?" moments, but then I read my review, and it explains why I rated it the way I did.

  • Sometimes, but more often it makes me want to re-read the book and see if it really was that good.

  • I don't think I have ever done it but I don't think I would change it after a certain amount of time without a reread. I'm not sure what that amount of time is though. Maybe a week or two.
