Re: QOTD 5/23

  • Samoas, which Chad says are called Caramel Delites on his side of the country.

East coast girls, does that sound familiar?  Probably the closest person to him would be @Nic...Rochester is about 40 minutes from his hometown.

I don't know if I've ever had girl scout cookies, but I've had girl guides and it's pretty much the same.  The only flavours I've tried are the mint ones and the chocolate or vanilla sandwiches    I prefer the chocolate sandhiches.

  • I have a tie for favorite, Tagalongs and thin mints.

@frank139@msu.edu‌ - I'm from NY and have never heard of the being called Carmel delights.

  • I'm not a big fan of Girl Scout cookies. I will eat the peanut butter cookies. I only ordered some this year because my niece called and asked me personally if I would order them from her. Before that, I had never ordered them before.

  • I grew up just outside of Albany, NY (about 3 hours East of Rochester) and was a Girl Scout from like 1st grade to 6th grade. I'm pretty sure that they were called Carmel Delights in the little pamphlet that you were given to sell cookies with. Also, the Tagalongs were always called Peanut butter patties. I think that Samoas and Tagalongs were the original names and that they changed the names at one point to Caramel Delights and Peanut Butter Patties. I remember that when I was older the cookie selling sheet had 2 names for some of the cookies, for example: Peanut butter patties (Tagalongs). Now, I think they went back to the original names again. (Totally going to look this up on Wikipedia LOL)

My favorites are the Peanut Butter Patties (aka Tagalongs)

  • Ok, so according to Wikipedia and GirlScouts.org, there's 2 different bakers that Girl Scouts USA uses. Depending on which bakery troops in a region use, the names may be different. When I was a Girl Scout, our region must have used the Caramel Delight / Peanut Butter Patty bakery.

  • I remember reading about this earlier this summer when looking up cookie types for my MIL and had to look it up again to refresh my memory. There are a few different cookies that have multiple names because they're produced by two different bakeries. So I don't know if they only go to specific regions, but the name of the cookie depends on the bakery it comes from!

I love Samoas and Thin Mints, but I like most of them! My favorite when I was in scouts was the Juliette, which they don't make anymore :( They were milk chocolate, caramel, and pecans. YUM.

  • Samoas!!!!
  • Samosas/Caramel Delights are my favorite along with the shortbread.  Where I am, in Jersey, we get cookies from both bakeries so one year it could be Samosas and the next Caramel Delights.

  • Thin mints!!!!  I'm deathly allergic to coconut, so no caramel delights (or samoas? i always thought it was samosas. I don't pay a lot of attention to a cookie I can't devour) for me.

  • Samoas!! I put them in the freezer too (got that from my mom) . They are a little harder to eat when they are frozen so it keeps me from eating the whole box in one sitting :-)

I love the peanut covered in chocolate ones. I was a girl scout as a kid but I never learned their names.

I put all varieties in the freezer. They are all better that way!

  • Trefoils are by far my absolute favorite. (I'm a sucker for dunking them in coffee)

Thin Mints are a very close second.

I buy Girl Scout cookies every year, but I really don't like them.  I try different varieties and I am just disappointed every year.  I didn't even both this year.
