What's the best part of your job?

Re: What's the best part of your job?

  • When I wasn't managing, it was offering people a job and changing their lives.

Now, I enjoy helping my staff grow professionally.

The pay and benefits. My employer lives by the golden handcuffs. I would NEVER make the amount of money I do working in the exact same job literally anywhere else. The benefits and time away are also top notch (i.e. they basically paid for my degree, have two onsite gyms, a wellness program, etc).

I'd say the flexibility.  I can take off whenever I want, change my schedule if I need to, take my breaks whenever I want and make up time if I want to rather than using my PTO.  I also work with a really good group of people which makes for some fun times.

  • My boss. He's pretty hands off, so it makes for a pretty relaxed atmosphere. We have a small team, so thankfully noone takes advantage of his management style, and we're able to work from home on occasion if we need to. I also have one co-worker who is pretty rad, so that makes up for having to deal with a crazy cakes co-worker.

  • I can't say I have a bad job because in all honesty I am spoiled here. My boss and I get along great, I have a coffee machine, PTO, health insurance, free equipment rentals whenever I want.

But the BEST part... I have an office cat to snuggle with when I get fed up.

It's just not the career I want at all.

  • Watching the "lights" go on when the kids "get it" and knowing that I'm making a real difference in my students' lives. I've gotten three love notes telling me how awesome a teacher I am from a kid who was a self-professed "school hater" at the beginning of the year. The last one said, "I still hate school but I love you and thank you for not giving up on me." (His punctuation, not mine.)
  • I love the families I work with and being able to see my kiddos grow and do amazing things that no one (sometimes even their own parents) ever thought they were going to be able to do. I am blessed to have a career that I absolutely love and feel like I'm making a difference.

The kids I work with---of course for the same reasons as PP, but also because the stuff they say is hilarious.  Before Mother's Day, we were working on crafts, and I asked a student what his mom's favorite thing was.  He said, "Busch Light--but she told me not to tell you that".  Kids are just so honest and funny.

  • The flexibility and understanding coworkers and an awesome boss. Even when I make a mistake they don't give me a hard time or anything. I can work from home occasionally if needed so if i have a doctors appointment i don't have to take time off. And I can work on personal work after i get my work done and i'm just killing time until we get our next project in. The problem that happens there is i spend all my free time on thenest and facebook. lol
