Farmer's markets

We've decided to forego the CSA this year and get summer veggies from farmer's markets instead. Does anyone have favorites in the area? We're in the North Hills, but I'm willing to travel within reason if the fruit/veggies/deals are really good.

Re: Farmer's markets

  • I'm going to be stalking this - I'm itching to start going to the farmer's markets!

I know there's a big on in Bridgeville on Friday evenings- but I haven't been to it, so I can't give any type of review yet (I'm hoping to get there soon:).
  • There is a pretty decent sized one in Sewickley on Saturdays.  I haven't been there yet this year, so I can't vouch for what is there this year, but it's pretty popular.

  • Cranberry Twp - it's at the township bldg on Friday evenings and at the Firehouse just up the road on 19 on Saturday mornings. I found in the past, though, that more vendors showed up on Friday nights. Check their website for more info, as it's possible that it has changed since last summer. :)

Nathan has gone to this one, its where he got his cabbage for our year's supply of sauerkraut and he said it was really nice.

Here is a nice list: Edible Allegheny's 2014 Pittsburgh Farmers Market Directory Although they have Brenckle's on Mt. Troy Road listed and they do not sell produce on the regular. They do get corn, cucumber, tomatoes but it isn't that great of a selection.

There is a nice one, not too big or small in East Allegheny Common Park every Friday through November.  I think it starts at 2 ish and ends at 7 ish. I love this one because it is in the evening and you can stop by after work.
  • I've never been but there is one next to west view school every Tuesday afternoon/evening.

  • We stopped the CSA this year too?  Have you tried out any of the suggestions? I sometimes try to stop at Kaelin's market on the way to/from Erie...

  • Maria, I haven't yet, but I'm thinking of trying one this week if I can. We used to go to Kaelin's all the time when I was younger - I'm interested in checking that out again. I'll let you know what we try and what I think!
