Re: Random Poll About Meeting People

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? I think I notice hair a lot.  I'm envious of a lot people's hair.  I just have plain brown hair myself, so I tend to assess that first.  I like seeing how people do their hair.  That's probably weird, right?  I also notice smiles and whether they smile or not.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? I always feel like I'm overly excitable, though I'm not sure if it comes across that way.  I know I'm not the greatest at eye contact, so I try to make a point to do that.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them? Limp handshakes. That's mostly for work though.

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new?  I always notice someone's smile.  Not that I'm looking for someone to have a great smile but if you don't smile at all when we first meet, I'm giving you the side-eye in my mind.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?  I'm typically loud and obnoxious, unless I'm having an off day.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?  Bitch face.  If you give me bitch face when we first meet, be prepared to get bitch face back.

I can usually tell in the first five minutes whether or not I want to be friends with someone.  You don't have to be loud like me.  You can totally be timid or shy, but if you make an effort then I want to be your friend.  With some nesties, I've immediately thought, "Yep.  Ride or die."

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new?

Probably their facial expression. Do they seem happy, bitchy, indifferent?

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?

I tend to be pretty shy at first. Honestly, meeting new people makes me very nervous and self-conscious. Eye contact and I don't get along. I suck at it and have been trying to make a point to get better at it. I can have an entire conversation without looking someone in the eye. I never knew that I did that until DH pointed it out one time.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?

Being snooty. I am pretty down to earth and accepting of most people, but I can't stand people that act like they are better than someone else.

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new?  Would I be shallow if I said their shoes?

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?  I like to think I come off as confident when I first meet someone but the more I hang out with someone the more insecure I get.  I feel like I make a good first impression but I wear on people the longer they know me.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?  Conversation dominators.  And personal space hoggers.

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new?  Either eyes or smile.  Sometimes hair.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?  I think I come across as professional yet friendly when I first meet someone.  I tend to be a little introverted in a group so I'm sure my quietness is taken for bitchy.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?  Their attitude.

  • 1. Facial expression and if they look like how I pictured them in my head. Weird but true. 2. Nervous generally, I'm usually afraid people are judging me. But I try and smile and be friendly 3. Being aloof and looking bored.

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? What they're wearing. Do I like their shoes? Are they wearing cute accessories? Followed by whether they seem friendly or not.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? I'm really bubbly and friendly and loud and I get excited easily, haha. I like to go out of my way to make people feel comfortable around me. But really it depends on who I'm introducing myself to.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them? No eye contact kills me. Bitch face I can accept, as long as you look at me when I'm talking to you.

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? Clothing.  Not because I'm judging what they wear but because I always like to see someone's personality reflected in their style.
    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?  I tend to avoid eye contact and I know that's bad.  Something about looking people I don't know in the eye makes me incredibly uncomfortable.  I'm also painfully shy so I'm sure people I think I'm being rude when I'm not.
    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?  Weak handshake.  My dad always made a big deal about strong handshakes so it really bugs me when someone can't shake hands well.

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new?
Their teeth/smile.  It may be mean, but if you have nasty teeth.. I can't talk to you.  It just grosses me out
    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?
Wellllll I am the poster child for resting bitch face.  When people first meet me, they always think I don't like them. However, once you get to know me I'm like a big squishy teddy bear.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?
Ass kissers and not to steal @booneybear 's answer but people who don't know how to respect personal space.  Only people I REALLYYYY like are allowed to invade my personal space.  I turn into Sheldon Cooper and start wigging out once I feel uncomfortable.

  • I feel like the first two are SO dependent on the situation.  Like am I meeting them through work? Are they clients? Through mutual friends? Someone my BFF says I will love? DH's work friends? Parents' acquaintance?  Complete stranger I am thrust into awkward situation with?

I feel like I notice and react differently for every single one of these situations.

Although no matter what, I am definitely turned off by superiority.  If someone is obviously looking down their nose at me and acting like they're doing me a favor by talking to me - fuck you.

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? Hair or smile.  I'm so jealous of most people's hair other than my own.  Mine never looks the same two days in a row.  Especially in the summer.  *poof* Yay humidity!

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact?
I'll be friendly, even a little bubbly, but I get a little awkward after the introduction.  I'm pretty shy.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?  Limp handshake.  That grosses me out for some reason.  Also, the person getting distracted easily by their phone or someone nearby.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
    "I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? Smiles

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? I think I come across as friendly but quiet.  It kind of depends on the setting.  In a big group, I tend to sit back and watch for a while before I'm comfortable enough to jump in.  One on one I'm more outgoing.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them? Condescension

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? Awkward. I can't help it. I also suffer from resting bitch face. I try and be friendly but than I worry that it seems that I am overcompensating. So ya, I am socially awkward.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them?Attitude. If they come in with a bad attitude I won't give them a chance after that.

    1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? It's a tie between their clothes and their smile. A warm smile immediately draws me in.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? What @pinkybooklover09 said - "Depends largely on the situation. I tend to be overly animated and bubbly even though I'd rather skulk about and avoid eye contact."

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them? Poor sense of humor. If you don't get my jokes, we're done.

  • 1.  What's the first thing you notice about someone new? Usually their smile or how they're behaving.

    2.  What are you like when you introduce yourself to someone?  Super bubbly?  Avoid eye contact? I'm pretty shy, so I try to make sure I'm smiling so I appear warm and friendly instead of awkward.

    3.  What can totally turn you off to someone when you first meet them? Rudeness. Or really bad breath (which usually means they are standing too closely anyway).
