Latest Health News

My CT Scan came back and I am all clear. My blood results came back and I'm anemic. This is good and sort of bad at the same time. It means nothing worse/ more serious is going on. But I am having a bad flare up of IBS. Meds are helping (one for abdominal pain and the other for GERDs) but I still get pain. Like today it's bad. Also being anemic isn't good but that can be corrected and managed fairly easily. I'm thinking I need to adjust my diet further along with activity level. And need to find a way to manage overwhelming stress. The stress at work probably helped to trigger this bad bought.

Any suggestions on vitamins? I cut back on the prenatal I was taking because it does not help my IBS (*ahem* constipation *ahem*).

As for our TTC endeavors we are still trying. Hs SA is the same as last time (good before wash and bad after wash). We couldn't get a consultation with his doc until the 15th! I guess it gets crazy around summer time. I scheduled a consultation with my doctor on the 19th. I know this may sound strange but if IVF is our next step we don't want to do IVF at this time. We just don't feel ready for it emotionally. And having more time to financially prepare would be good (IUI & IVF is all OOP). We'll find out a couple weeks from now what our next step will be.

Glad you got some answers, and hopefully you'll start feeling better soon!

I don't know much about vitamins, so no help there.

I guess I don't understand why his SA can be good pre-wash, but bad post-wash?  That doesn't really make sense to me.  Did they explain why?

IVF is a big decision.  I'm ready, DH isn't.  So we talk about it every so often, just to see his stance, but I'm just letting him move at his own pace.  Hopefully he'll be ready soon.  We are doing one last Hail Mary IUI, and then we have to move on.

    Good luck with everything!

From my understanding it's recommended to have about 5million count after a wash.

These are Hs numbers from his first SA. His second (I don't have the numbers as H was told over the phone) was almost the same. He was told he had 1 mil after wash.

    Initial values:
    2.5 ml volume
    20 mill/ml
50 mill total number of sperm
    60.1% motility
    30.05 mill total motile sperm
    0% morphology strict criteria

    After wash:
    .5 ml volume
    2.8 mill/ml
1.4 mill total number of sperm
    88.94% motility
    1.25 mill total motile sperm
    1.5% morphology strict criteria

But we're just guessing as of now that 1 million sperm aren't enough for an IUI. We'll find out more when we go to the doctor.

Oh okay. I was thinking that the motility had dropped in the post wash sample and I was wondering how that could happen..

I'm sorry. My RE likes to see at least 5mil for an IUI. So is his appt the first time seeing a urologist? Hopefully he will have some suggestions to improve the numbers.

  • Yea everything is ok before the wash except for morph. And after the numbers get better except for count.

The appointment isn't with a urologist. H goes to an RE that deals with male infertility. I'm not sure if he's going to refer H to a urologist or not. I do hope he has suggestions on what we can do to improve count.

I don't go to a RE (Hs RE has all my info too) I go to my obgyn office. They have a section dedicated to female infertility.
  • Even though the answers aren't really very helpful, at least you are learning more about what's going on!

Did your doctor say anything about the anemia? When I tested positive for anemia, my doc had me start taking iron supplements, which have been a huge help. Only problem is they cause constipation, which would not be good for your IBS. Definitely a diet change to incorporate more meats and green veggies should help, but you may already be doing this.
  • He told me to eat foods rich/ high in iron. I'll probably have to cut back on how much chicken we eat to help. I like chicken too. Buy yea I'll have to adjust what I eat to get even more iron.
