NMMR: Missing work

This is a woe is me post. I just started yet another new job working for housekeeping in a boarding school. It is actually not as bad as I thought and the people are great.

Unfortunately I forgot a change of shoes today and I had to walk home from work today barefoot. There were a few times I jumped to the grass on hot spots but I didn't think much of it. Apparently my tough feet went soft this winter because I have 2nd degree burns on the balls of my feet! I have never burnt them before or heard of anyone doing it. Probably because it is kind of embarrassing. Haha

I am in a surprising amount of pain and I am happy to be laying down. It is looking like I am going to be out of work tomorrow and maybe even the next day. Huge hit to the paycheck but since I haven't budgeted the money in it wont be so bad.

  • That sounds so painful! Hope it gets better soon!
  • How come you couldn't wear the shoes home that you wore to work?  What am I missing?

I was assuming that they were nasty heals or something dressy required for work, but not suitable to walk a descent distance.

Cleaning a dorm building that had a minor outbreak of beg bugs in March. To be extra cautious we changed in the entryway into completely new clothes and shoes at the end of the day. My boss took everything to have it dried(kill the possible bugs.) She felt bad but had to take my shoes even though I forgot a a clean pair. I live in another dorm building on campus so they were way more strict with me.

  • I can totally understand this precaution.  My XO's mom had bed bugs real bad in her house, luckily it was winter in Ohio this year so they threw a lot of the keep items into the unheated garage to help kill the bugs.

    They are nasty things.

We were lucky they were caught so soon because they take over very quickly and we could have had the entire campus infested.

  • Oooh ouch!  Lather those puppies up with some aloe and keep them elevated while drinking tons of water.

We live in northern IL, and I burned the soles of my feet on sand at the river 2 years ago.  Bad, very bad.
