Update from RE

We had our follow up at the RE today and start meds for IUI tomorrow! While this is the scenario I wanted, I am kind if freaking out! I go for an injections class tomorrow (has anyone had to go to a class) and an ultrasound. Then just go from there! We still have to decide if we want to do insemination or just timed intercourse. DH wants timed, but I am leaning towards insemibation. Any thoughts or advice? I feel like my mind is going a million miles a minute!

Re: Update from RE

  • That's very exciting!! I hope it all goes well with the injections class and getting started with meds!

If you're doing IUI, that's insemination. So it sounds like that's already been decided?

Or are you doing a medicated cycle to get a better ovulation/trigger when it's time, then do either TI or IUI?

I think if the cost of the cycle would be the same whether you do TI or IUI, I'd prefer to do the IUI, since it does get things a little closer to where they need to be than just timed ST. But of course, your DH is part of this, so his feelings on the matter are important, too.

  • Awesome! How exciting for you guys!

I have never done an "injections" class, although it was offered. I think it just depends on your comfort level and experience. I'm an NP, so didn't really see the point for myself.

I agree with Lucky about the recommendation to do IUI instead of TI. This is more accurately timed. Plus, the spermies will be washed and put in closer to where they need to be from the start than they would be with TI. I understand YH's trepidation to do this though, as it would involve having to provide another sample, so definitely talk it out. I would also consider asking your RE about his/her experience with couples being successful with one over the other.

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted!

  • I did an injects class. It was just the nurse showing me how to mix my meds and stab myself.

I would go with IUI if DH is up for it. You get the sperm washed and then WAY more sperm have a chance at making it to the egg than if you do TI. And the cost difference for IUI at my RE vs TI is only like $200 if you're OOP.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks all! I'm pretty DH will let me decide which one we do. It's 450 dollar difference, but I think we will go ahead with IUI. I just think the increased chances are worth the extra money and don't want to regret not going that route in the first place.
Also did any of your re's say anything about exercise? My RE didn't say anything about it, but in the packet they gave me. It says no strenuous exercise. I enjoy working out and go to Zumba twice a week plus some strength training (nothing hard core though). I'm going to ask about it when I go in today, but wanted to hear from y'all.

  • Exciting!  I did go for a class.  I also watched Youtube videos (they were more helpful.)  The first shot was the worst.  After that it just became second nature.

I wouldn't wait injections on TI.  I say IUI all the way.  Good Luck whatever you decide!
