Reading Lottery - Shine (sp)

I know I'm late finishing this, but I finally read my book for the reading lottery!
I got Shine by Lauren Myracle. I've had this book on my TBR list for a while, so this pushed me to read it. I wish I had read it sooner!
I thought the world she created in this story was pretty real, tiny backwoods towns in the middle of nowhere where only 3 kids make it to high school and the rest drop out - that's all too true. I really liked Cat's character. She was spunky and easy to like. I kind of wish her back story had been pushed out a little more, with her dad and her abuse.
I didn't really enjoy the little love interest Cat had with Jason. That just seemed unnecessary and also I don't think someone who was abused like Cat was would just jump right into a relationship.
I also wasn't super happy with the ending, but I did enjoy the book. It was a fast read, and I liked the little mystery that as in there.

Re: Reading Lottery - Shine (sp)

  • I completely agree with this! I felt that this was a fast read and I was interested but I didn't love it. I wasn't happy with the way things turned out and some parts seemed to not make sense or fit in the story line.

P.S. I still haven't finished my book and I was the one who put this all together ;-)

  • Ya I agree there were definitely some parts that didn't really fit in and just seemed kind of extra.
