Re: WTF Wednesday

  • Sorry, I needed WTF immediately! haha.

WTF H!!! I know the tree services are almost $1000, but that's because they KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING!!!! It will save us money if you and your co-workers think you can do it, but that won't matter if the chainsaw cuts off a limb!!! You could damage our house in the process. We got lucky that it didn't damage it more than it did already. SERIOUSLY?!

(A tree split and fell on the house during a storm yesterday. Luckily it does not seem to have put a hole in the roof, just damaged the gutters, but it has to be removed ASAP for obvious reasons...)

Shouldn't your homeowner's insurance cover this? Mine does.

  • WTF to people who think the anonymity of the internet gives them the right to be rude or snarky to strangers.  Hasn't happened to me personally but I see it so often now and it's infuriating.  If you think someone is being an idiot or, God forbid, breaking internet etiquette (the HORROR!!), try taking the high road.

  • WTF HBO?  If I'm watching True Blood season 6 don't show me previews for season 7!  I'm super butt hurt about this.  I had this happen with Dexter too.  I got the DVD and it showed that season's cliffhanger in a not skippable preview.  Majorly butt hurt right now.  How hard is it to market this kind of stuff?

Well we have a $1,000 deductible and so H doesn't want to call unless he can't do it since we'd be paying anyways. He's being a stubborn, stubborn man.

  • @xxjen015‌ - Sadly a man from our IT department recently died from injuries sustained in a tree trimming accident. My advice is to hire someone.

I get annoyed by people saying it's not mean it's just a little snark.  Call it what you want, making fun of people is mean.
  • @xxjen015 DH owned a tree service for over ten years, and just sold it b/c it's not a safe profession. I highly reccommend NOT doing it yourself, and if you don't want to get ripped off, you can PM me and I can give you some advice. Good luck!!! (and you might be able to get $500 bucks from insurance for clean up since it hit the house, regardless of deductible, it's like auto glass, outside the realm of deductible for some insurance, as long as the company writes the estimate right. But...usually damage under $1000 isn't worth it to claim.)

@Seipel12 Ugh! I hate the very word snark, you're being mean, at least be honest about it. Being sarcastic and funny, fine. Different opinions, fine. Not dropping something EVER and continually coming back just to be nasty is just mean.

Ok, now for my complaint: faucet broke 10min after I left and water apparently poured all over the kitchen (that I just cleaned top to bottom yesterday, of course) DH goes to the basement to turn off water b/c he didn't realize that there is a turn off under the sink (his old house is over 100 years old and all the shut offs are in the basement) so water floods kitchen and even gets into the basement yay. DH cleans it up sort of, sets up a fan, heads to work. I ask my dad (who works from home) to check it out while we're gone. My dad calls to say 1. he couldn't fix it we have to get a new faucet. fine. 2. he couldn't figure out our door lock and isn't sure it's locked or closed right!!! not fine. (we have a push button door lock with a code b/c DH loses keys too easily) He also doesn't think he closed the door to the basement, so now I'm stressing about what shenannigans our dogs will get into with an open basement and possibly open door!!! (we have a fenced in yard that my dad said is definitely closed...hopefully he's right about this one and the dogs aren't all over the neighborhood!!!) The dogs get into trouble with everything closed, locked, and babyproofed...I have no idea what I will come home too. My dad thought I was crazy for asking him to go back, but he will on his lunch break...Hopefully dogs are sleeping on the couch, and I will just have damp towels to pick up when I get home.

Thanks for reading if you got this far...

  • ^^^Completely agree! People have enough crap going on in their lives, why do random online people have to be mean on top of it.

My WTF Wednesday revolves around Facebook. Lately, I've been on FB less and less because every time I post something, members of DH's family attack me. H and I flew Southwest Airlines for the first time a few weeks ago, and I was so annoyed by the airline that I posted a small rant on my FB page. H's aunt posted a snarky comment about how much she loves Southwest. In return, I posted a respectful response that we prefer Jet Blue, but they don't fly from the DC area to Detroit. We gave SW a try, but unfortunately we did not enjoy it. Then she posted a passive aggressive thing on her own page about people who just like to complain. Then, yesterday, I was upset that there was another school shooting, so I posted a status that said something like how many times does this have to happen before we look at our gun laws. H's cousin attacked me on that one. Again, I posted a very respectful comment that I know we're on different sides of the gun debate and I respect his opinion, but it's never going to change my feelings on guns.

I feel like I have to censor my opinions to prevent being attacked on my own FB page. I told H about it last night and he said to just ignore it, but I'm entitled to opinions on MY OWN PAGE! I'm so tired of dealing with it and sometimes II think it's time to cut back on my FB use even more....but, it kills me because I'm not one to cave to pressures like this. I was raised to have an opinion and back it up with facts.

    Le sigh...

  • @nic I have so many people blocked that I just CAN'T with.  Life's too short.  I'm still FB friends with them but they can't see my statuses, etc.  I feel you!

    @nic12184

Someone from work used to do that, so I block them from all my posts. You can also block certain people from certain posts on a case by case basis. You just click the little person when you post to decide who sees it.

ETA- When did everyone forget the if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all rule?

  • Two interlinked WTF moments.

WTF landlord. Yet again, we're going on a week without hearing from anyone about getting our roof and bathroom fixed. Obviously you remembered we existed when our rent check was cashed.

I did stumble onto a nice rental house online, but it's a little more than what we pay now. I tried to show H, but he didn't seem interested. Do I need to throw my phone in his face to get a point across?

  • WTF school district?

It's the second week of June and you're giving a local post-test to the pre-test that you gave in March.  How much growth will my students show?  It's not fair to evaluate me this way.

How are my student supposed to concentrate on a test in the second week of June when it's about 90 degrees and humid in the classroom?  I am so sick of all the testing!

This is only the 6th high stakes test that most of my students have taken since March and the 7th high stakes test that 3 of my students have taken.  ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!
