The good, the bad and the ugly - long vent

As most of you saw on FB, we are officially done with the sale of our house. \:D/

The good - we have been able to pay off about 70% of our debt which is such an awesome feeling!  We're hoping to be 100% debt free besides H's last student loan and our car within the next few months.  We are so thankful this opportunity presented itself and are able to better our financial situation.

The bad - Sunday was a shitastic day!  I scheduled a cleaning lady to come do a move out clean and she never showed up, but kept saying she was on her way.  By 4pm, we decided to call another cleaning service and they said they could be there by 5.  Well, they didn't show up til 6 and stayed until 9pm, and did a horrible job so we stayed another hour cleaning what they overlooked.  On top of that whole crappy scenario, H lost his phone in the morning, I dropped mine later in the day and we both started getting sick.

The ugly - we completely underestimated how horrible it was going to be living at my parents house.  The room we are staying in is about 1/3 of our master bedroom and even though I got rid of a lot of extras, we are maxed out on space.  On top of that, my older brother is still living at home and runs his business out of the house.  He buys and sells collectibles, so there are train sets, figurines, and all sorts of other crap piled up everywhere.  We can't even eat at the kitchen table because he has stuff all over it.  I have no idea how we are going to do this for the next year.  It's only been 4 days!!  God, grant me the patience please!

I'm trying to keep my eye on the prize, but man, this is going to be very trying.

  • Congrats on your good news!!  That must be an awesome feeling.  I literally cannot imagine being done with student loans, I'm so jealous you'll be there fairly soon.

DH and I lived with my parents/grandma for 1 year after law school while we looked for jobs.  He slept on the couch, and I slept on an actual chair.  It was rough but we got through it, and now we look back and laugh.  I'm sure you guys will do the same :)

  • That's awesome you guys were able to pay off so much!  It's a great feeling to get rid of debt.

As for living with parents that has to be rough.  It would be extremely tough for me to handle living with other adults at all.  Especially in their home.  Good luck and hopefully it will get easier with time.

  • Congrats on the sale!! That is fantastic!! And good luck with the living situation. That sounds really trying.....but in the end it will be worth it!

  • Congrats on the sale!

Keep repeating to yourself that your living situation is only temporary. That being said, I know it would drive me crazy too!

  • Congrats!! As for living with your parents, just think about how great it will be next year when you are buying your dream house. Once you move in there you will barely remember living with your parents.
