Did you go to private school or public? Where are you planning to send your kids?

Bonus question: how is Heidi going to make it through today, being Friday the 13th?

I went to a private, Christian school in Kindergarden, then moved away and went to a different private Christian school. I was homeschooled for a few years, returned to private school and then went to a public high school.

I would never send my kids to a private Christian school...it made me too sheltered. I feel like public schools (especially where we live) don't offer the best education so I'd love for my kids to be part of a homeschool group in the area. Basically, a bunch of homeschool kids get together a few times a week and are taught lessons by an actual teacher. I'm also interested in French Immersion too.

Public. We plan on public schools for our kids too. Maryland has decent public schools, so I'm not too worried. We can fill in the blanks if we see any.

Idk how Heidi will survive... Not only Friday the 13th, but a full moon too!

Public, and that is where I will send my kids. I'd like to move into a better district though. The one we are in isn't bad, but it's not as good as the district one city over.

AHH and it's a full moon! I'm going to be really nervous today.

I went to public for kindergarten, non-religious private "gifted" (nerd) school for 1-3 grade, public 4-8, private Catholic HS.

It will depend on our financial situation. We live in a fantastic public school area now, but I am also really passionate about Catholic education, so I'm torn. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

I was always in public school. I had always thought my kids would go to public school as well, but I'm less certain of that these days, what with Common Core and all the other BS that accompanies public education now. I guess the plan for right now is to find a house in a good school district and re-evaluate in a few years. Once there's, you know, an actual kid and not just a hypothetical one.

I went to public for my whole education, but for 5th grade I went to an arts magnet, 6th-12th I went to academic magnets. My high school (which was 7th-12th) was the #1 public school in the state and 36th in the country when I went there, so I was lucky to have a good public education. Where H grew up (which is where we live now) there is a HUGE private school offering.

Right now I'm inclined to say public for elementary for sure and then see what the high schools are like. But as a teacher who teaches common core, I'm with @pockysquirrel. I think it's BS that just confuses our kids. I strongly dislike most of what we're teaching them through common core and I think we're going to screw up this generation of children. I don't want my children learning that way, and if I have to homeschool them to help them learn the best way possible, so be it. *step off of soapbox*

ETA: I picture Heidi making it through today sitting in a corner singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" to herself

Chad just showed me how they are doing math now in common core, and we both were like "umm looks like it might be homeschooling!" So you're not alone.

I went to public school, but my high school was ranked 68th in the nation the year I graduated (It plummeted to like #85 the year after, clearly b/c I left, HA) It was way better than any private school near by. I currently live in an excellent school district (I bought my house here on purpose so I wouldn't have spend money to send future children to private school). We bought the worst, tiniest house in an amazing neighborhood, so we can always add on as needed. I would consider homeschool, but I think DH and I will do enough teaching at home as it is to hopefully overcome the ridiculous mandates being put in schools by people who have never taught a day in their life. (I am also a teacher...)

It's ridiculous. I teach 2nd grade, so I'm not sure how it's all done in the higher grades, but we're not allowed to teach how to subtract with borrowing until 4th grade. Same with adding in columns and carrying over when it's over 10. It's crazy. There's a reason I can do math quickly in my head, and it's because I wasn't trying to use a flipping number line or base-10 blocks or other BS. Some of it can be useful, but overall, it's crazy.

It's confusing enough, but parents don't know how to do it (and you can't blame them!! some of the lessons confuse the tar outta me) so then they try to show them the traditional way of doing it, but then these poor kids just end up so confused. Or the parents look it up on the internet. I'm over it.

My parents both worked for the public school system so they felt passionate about us attending. I will also have our kids attend public school. Our county has great schools. Our local high school is ranked 64th in the country.

the common core sounds terrible! I don't know if we have that in Canadian schools but I do know that there is so much in our schools I disagree with. I think a homeschool group is the best idea for us because the kids get more attention from the teacher plus H and I can teach them stuff all throughout the day at home (he already claimed dibs on teaching them earth science).

Public school for both myself and DH. We haven't discussed it much but I think we will be enrolling our kids in public too unless things change a lot before then. Private schools out here are more a year than I paid for college. It's nuts!

We both went to public school. My oldest has been in public and the youngest will be starting kindergarten in public next year. The school district that we are moving to is really good, so we are fine with putting them in public.

me again...I just looked up my high school's ranking in all of Ontario and it is 183/740 (the high school near our house is closer to 700...which is bad). I'm surprised to see that my high school ranked alright.

I went to public school from pre-k- 8th grade and all girls Catholic HS. H went to public school all the way through.

Our kids will most likely go to public school all the way. My district has 2 nationally ranked top 100 Hs.

I went to Catholic school from kindergarten up until I graduated high school. H was in public school his entire academic career.

I think we'll probably make that decision once we finally settle down and have kids. I think it's a matter of where we'd wind up.

The area I lived in growing up was not the greatest, so I'm glad I wound up in private rather than public school in that case. But, I would be okay with sending them to public school if we wind up in an area like H lived in.
