WIJFLT: Shadow and Bone (spoliers)
I had to go home at lunch time to wait for my new clothes dryer to be delivered, and I just finished the book in the car on the way back.
Meh. (Is that blasphemous? Should I be hiding?) I already requested the next audiobook from the library, so I'm going to keep going with the series, but I thought this book was just okay. Maybe my expectations were too high, knowing how much NBCers love this series? I never got attached to any of the characters, and found that I just didn't care about any of them all that much. I was so relieved at the end when Alina finally grew a set and used her own power to fight back - she just seemed so pathetic throughout the whole book before that. The fact that that finally happened at the end and they ran off together gives me some hope for the rest of the series, at least. I assume that with two more books to go, she's going to fight, and not just hide out.
The third book just came out right? Is that the last one?
Did anyone else feel this way after the first book, and does the second book get better or resolve the faults that I'm feeling, or am I the only one that feels this way? Part of the problem, I know, is that I could not stop comparing this to the Seven Realms series, and I don't even think the two are in the same class. At least based on this first book, anyway.
Re: WIJFLT: Shadow and Bone (spoliers)
Did you not like the first book in the Seven Realms series? I just looked back at my GR reviews of that series, and I gave the first one only 3 stars and said it started slow. I ended up loving that series and now recommend it to others, so there's hope for the Grisha yet.
