WIMOHB (SPOILERS to the end)

Okay who is done?
Who was expecting that to happen?

Re: WIMOHB (SPOILERS to the end)

  • I finished last night! Sorry - this is going to be really long.

Holy emotional roller coaster. I think experienced every possible emotion on the spectrum while reading this one. I absolutely LOVED it.

I can't even begin to go through ALL my favorite parts. So many wonderful and horrible things.

The first part I remember completely blowing my mind was when Roger went back to 1739. I was NOT expecting that in the slightest! As soon as he figured out where he was, though, I just KNEW that his dad was there. I was really really pleased that he was, but kind if disappointed with how that all panned out. It was awesome to meet Brian and Young Jenny. I cried my eyes out when Brian thought that Brianna and Jem were Ellen and Willie :( And again when Roger saw Jem running toward him.

What is up with Dr. Hector and that blue light? At first, Lauren and I thought that maybe he was Master Raymond, but then the more I read, the less likely I thought it was. I'm really curious to see if either of the kids have this power.

My favorite Claire and Jamie parts:

When they were reunited in the garden shed - that scene had me sweating!!! So. Hot.

When Claire got shot. Jamie refusing to leave her side made me cry and swoon at the same time. I was in a panic during that scene and Jamie was the only thing holding me steady. That whole scene and the one following it (the surgery) were SO NERVE WRACKING!

The scene at the end before he goes to kill the dirty fat lumpkin. When Jamie, err, interrupts her. Haha. The penis song! LOLOL. And the scene where he comes back - when he tells her that she alone holds his whole heart. Swoon.

Rachel and Ian. Oh Rachel and Ian. Rachel is one of my favorite characters. She's just so damned sensible and GOOD. And the way she takes care of Ian? I love them.

Ian killed me in this book. HE IS SO FUCKING HOT. He's so much like Young Jamie, but tougher somehow. The scene where he put a tomahawk through the Indian's head? My mouth hit the floor. His and Rachel's wedding night was so so hot. And when Rollo died and he said the dog had been waiting for Rachel? Oh my god, I'm crying all over again.

LJG. I was convinced he was going to die in this book but I'm SO glad he made it! It was touch and go there for a while - he had a rough time of it through most of the book, but he handled it all with grace like the classy son of a bitch he is. Obsessed. LOVE HIM. SO MUCH.

Denny and Dorothea were so adorable! I adored them and I'll miss them if we don't get to see them next book.

And the conversations between the women in this book were awesome. I laughed so hard at Claire, Rachel and Dottie talking about sex. "Oh god, oh god," Hahahaha.

Germain! Oh man. I love him and Fergus so much. The scene where he stole back Clarence? FUCKING PRICELESS.

But then... The fire. Oh god. I was pretty much inconsolable after that. I didn't think I was going to be able to
keep reading, I was crying so hard. And then the funeral was even harder. I was completely overwhelmed with grief. That scene had me feeling depressed until the end of the book, almost.

When I started part 9, I was panicking that it was still Claire. But what about Bree and Roger and the kids?!!! That's when it occurred to me that the book HAD to end with Bree and Roger going back to The Ridge. When they showed up at the very end, I cried happy tears. There is nothing like a joyful reunion! Tearing up again just thinking of it.

In conclusion: I really think WIMOHB has a new spot among my Outlander favorites. I was not even mildly bored for even one second. The pace of this one was just perfection - important things were happening from beginning to end! And now I think I finally feel ready for the last book.

I'm sure I'll remember more stuff I need to talk about.

You had pretty much the same experience I had! I really wanted to read this one slowly and take it all in, but the pacing was just so good! I finished it way quicker than I thought I would.                            I was highlighting so many passages on my kindle it almost felt like I was highlighting the whole book.
A couple of times I had to go back and re-read a section because I was so emotional in the first reading of it that I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. I actually re-read from the fire to the end for just that reason.

I was devastated. It was the middle of the night and I was up with Alex (poor sick baby). I couldn't breathe when it happened. It was a complete out of body experience. The funeral and the burial did me in though. I was texting my sis who had finished earlier that day. I realise how lucky they have been throughout the series but wow.

I am loving Germain. He reminds me so much of a young Fergus. Sneaking off to war like that. I was so hurt for him after the fire. Do you find it interesting that he is named Germain and his supposed "inheritance" will be the title Comte St. Germain? I don't know whether to believe it or not.

I also thought LJG might be the death we saw in this book, which would have been awful. I was glad when he didn't die. I also had the thought that only a Lord would handle his situation as he did.

I knew that Roger would meet his father from the novella but that made it worse. The longer he spent in the past without seeing him the more anxious I was for Bree and the Kids. I couldn't figure out how they were going to make it work. It was giving me anxiety just thinking about it. When she found his letter, I had a huge sense of relief!
I also thought that Dr Hector might be Raymond, I don't understand all the blue light business. Claire doesn't have it, right?! Or have I missed something major? The blue light also makes appearances in the Novellas so I am thinking it will be addressed more in the next book.

The whole Geillis and Buck thing completely made me sick.
    :-&

I cried at the Bree and Brian thing too. I loved meeting him and seeing how much Jamie was like his father. I am so glad he got that little bit of peace before he will die.

Claire and Jamie have never been so perfect together as they were in this whole book. They have both come into their own, I think this is the point in their lives where all is good with them. When she was shot and recovering I was just on the edge of my seat. I knew they wouldn't kill her but was worried anyways. Seeing Claire still dealing with her PTSD from the kidnapping and everything made me hurt for her.

Denny and Dottie are adorable. Rachel and Ian are awesome. I love Rachel. I love how Ian is with her. I love everything about them and quite frankly I would love to see them name him Rollo.
I was fully expecting Rollo's death in this book but I sobbed anyways. He was such a good dog.

William! I can't believe how much I am loving that guy. He is going through so much. I can't fathom how he is accepting all the news he has received. Yet he cares so much for others. He is just like his Dad (both of them).

Did you notice that she added a character named Heughan? I thought that was pretty cool and shows how much she is standing by the TV show.

I agree, this quickly became one of the best books in the series. The ending was perfection. I don't expect everything to be tied up nicely in a bow in a series like this but she def left it so that the next book is all about new beginnings.

I have so many thoughts and feelings about this book. I have been unable to read anything else since finishing it. I know I missed some of my talking points I meant to write so I will be back with those later.
I have just been so overwhelmed with this book, in a good way. I feel like I did when I first read DIA (which was the first book in the series I read). It blew my mind and took over my life. I may have to re-read the whole thing again to get it out of my system.

Oh AND JENNY! I can't begin to explain how much I loved having Jenny in this book. I was so disappointed in her for what feels like forever, but she has redeemed herself so much in this one.
  • William. Meh. I'm not in love with him.

  • I don't have time to do this justice now, but pretty much everything Eli said. Young Ian can GET IT. LJ is my fucking hero.

Don't get me wrong... I adored Jamie as always in this book. But he was starting to annoy me with his macho man thing. He was just petty and mean to LJ, and I wanted to smack him and tell him to stop being an ass.

I can usually handle time travel stuff but my head was spinning in a few parts. And Buck and Geillis - BIGGEST WTF EVERRR.

I liked William in Echo, but by the end of this one I was super annoyed by him. I was hoping to see him grow up a little, and he really didn't.

Finally - I needed more Ian and Rachel at the end. I hate that we didn't get private Ian/ Rachel time at the end after the baby came :(

    Overall, I loved it!

  • I CAN FINALLY READ THIS POST!!!

But everything I have to say has already been said. :/

  • Germain and Fanny. I'm calling it right now: they'll grow up into star-crossed lovers. They'll heal each other with friendship, and it will be sweet as hell. I ship it. :)

I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. I really enjoyed this one, and I especially appreciate that DG didn't leave us with another cliffhanger. With so much time between books, a cliffy is torture.

Also agree that I expected more growth from William. He showed glimpses of decency, but it never quite gelled for me. I want so badly to like him.

I texted this to @elistar and @84lauren last night.

Do we think Bree and Roger are staying for good?

Re. Bree and Roger I think so. I think it is where they belong.
  • I think Bree and family will stay, or at least I hope so. The "modern" storyline was my least favorite. I like it when everyone's in the same time frame.

  • I don't think they can go back because of Rob Cameron.

  • I'm wondering how Mandy is going to handle living in the past.  She's never known anything other than the future.

I think Mandy will be okay. She is so young and seems pretty adaptable.

But she's a kid.  Will she not get it and start telling the other kids about Coca Cola?  I think it might be kind of hilarious.

I think she'll adjust fine but there is a lot of room for some humor with her adjusting to a completely different world.

Actually, they can't go back to Scotland because of Rob Cameron.

I suppose they could go back to the U.S. depending on how determined Rob Cameron really is.

I think Bree said something about looking over her shoulder even when she was in the United States. If they go back to the future, they'd have to go with the intention of eliminating Rob Cameron.

Meh.  Fine with me.  I don't want them to ever go back.
