WIMOHB. Something's wrong

I'm having such a difficult time getting into it.  I've had it since last week and I'm not quite 100 pages into it.  It sounds amazing from what I've seen people saying about it and I want to be swept up like everyone else.  I don't know what's wrong with me.  Someone needs to come to NJ and shake me to snap me out of this.

Re: WIMOHB. Something's wrong

  • I had to push through at first because I didn't remember/care about all the characters. Mostly, I'm invested in Jamie and Claire. But once I peeked ahead and saw when they'd be reunited, it gave me the motivation to keep going. I still haven't reached that point, but I'm feeling more interested in the secondary players, especially Lord John and Ian.

  • I had just finished my reread of Echo and was super excited to start on this one.  I'm LOVING it.

    It's slippery as waterweed.
  • @RevJen I am in the same boat.  I'm not very far into it and I assumed I would be done by now.  I ended up putting it down and reading something else instead because I just couldn't get into it.

  • Really?? I thought this one starts off a lot more fast-paced than most others. Maybe because it just picks up where Echo left off. I couldn't put it down!

Ditto.  I'm having the hardest time NOT reading it.

It's the first time it's ever happened with any of the Outlanders for me.  I have no clue what's wrong with me.

  • I stopped at 40 pages to read Ruin and Rising. I'm not Omg loving it. It's interesting, but I didn't want to wait a week or two to read R&R. I figured stop and read the other in a few days and get back to WIMOHB. I hope I'm more patient with it then.

  • Yup. Something is wrong with you.

I thought this book had zero drag time. I also just finished my re-read of the entire series, and in comparison with all of her other books, this one is really fast paced.

Then I'll put it down for now and try to come back to it later when I'm in the mood.

I think that is what you need to do @revjen. I flew through it!
    Did you re-read AEITB?

No.  For some reason, I thought I had more time.

I would give that a shot @revjen! Try and re-read or listen to AEITB it might make it easier to get back into WIMOHB since they pick up right after it.
  • It took me a good 150 pages or so but now I'm hooked in.  I don't want to go too fast though, because heaven knows when the next one will be...another 5 years?  Longer?

She's already started on Book 9 from what I've read.

  • I'm only on page 55 right now.  I started yesterday.  I'd be farther but I got sucked into a True Blood marathon.  I wouldn't call it slow right now.  I'm definitely interested in the book but I'm not quite hooked yet and I know its only because I read all the little preview pieces she put on her website.  Right now everything I'm reading is stuff I've already read.

  • I've been worrying about little Jem for 5 years so once we got to that part it started flying.
