edited June 2014 in GP Moms

This is somewhat of a cross-post from Mommy 2 Mommy2B, but could definitely use thoughts/prayers/advice.

I had the tiniest bit of spotting last night, accompanied by what I can only describe as period cramps, which really freaked me out. I called my doctor and she said it is probably implantation bleeding, and it was probably all fine. She agreed to have me come in on Friday morning. The spotting was only when I wiped, and I had to really look for it, but it was/is still scary. Nothing made it to my underwear or bowl, but I saw it a few more times last night until about 10:30PM, nothing since then. Just these uncomfortable cramps, which the doctor also mentioned was ok.

My betas so far were 6/14:1238, 29.5 Progesterone. 6/16: 2745, 19 Progesterone. I have my next blood draw tomorrow. The nurse who I spoke with on the phone this morning when I got the results was about to put me on the progesterone supplement, but then saw a note that I was coming in on Friday and she held off on the progesterone supplement. Of course, my doctor scheduled the appointment with me last night before she saw that my progesterone had dipped. Should I call later, after my doctor seen the results, and ask again about the progesterone supplement? Has anyone else experienced these period type cramps in between week 4-5? I know there is nothing really I can do, so any t&ps are appreciated.

UPDATE:

Got my third round of numbers back, from 6/19: 5347, 32.8 Progesterone. Not quite a double from 6/16, but was told by the nurse that it was ok. I go in tomorrow for the sonogram. Not expecting to hear anything or see much, but still so, so nervous. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. On another note (AW) my jury came back at 4:50 this afternoon- I won my trial!

Re: T&Ps please (UPDATE)

  • I would ask for the supplement if they show it's dropping and you're experiencing some spotting. FX that it is nothing!

  • Have you had sex lately?  Sometimes ST can irritate your cervix during pregnancy and cause some minor spotting.
Also, as far as the cramping.  It's normal to feel some aching as your uterus expands and grows.

Hopefully you get some answers on Friday, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to the nurse and ask for the progesterone.

  • I have always experienced spotting early on (4-6w) and cramping throughout first tri.  Try to think positive thoughts because what you've described sounds normal in my experience.  If the bleeding increases, or you begin to pass clots accompagnied by severe cramping it may be more cause for concern.  Good luck with your upcoming appt.

  • There's no concrete evidence that progesterone prevents a miscarriage. Some dr's use it, some don't believe in it. If something is already beginning to happen it's pretty impossible to stop it. But you're so early chances are it's just implantation. Your numbers are incredibly high.

  • Spotting can be normal.  I had pretty consistent spotting from 7 weeks - 14 weeks.  I did start Progesterone and took it throughout first tri.  With such a tiny bit, I would not be worried at all.

  • I had period like cramps in weeks 4 and 5, and spotting can definitely be NBD, especially if you had sex recently as brij mentioned. FX it's nothing! Your betas are awesome!

Thanks so much for all the kind words, advice and sharing your experiences. No ST super recently, so I don't think that is it. I am beginning to calm down finally though, thanks to all of you. I ended up getting stuck in court this afternoon, so I wasn't able to call my doctor again. (Because of course I am in the middle of jury trial during all of this). Hoping and praying for good news on Friday. One more blood draw tomorrow morning. Thank you all again!

I would not expect them to want to put you on progesterone. My OB always wanted my progesterone more than 10-15, and yours is higher than that. I hope everything goes well.

I had period like cramps with both my pregnancies. I also had spotting that turned into more than spotting with my first. It was first brown, then pink, then red and I was freaked out. It turned out that I had a sub chorionic hemotoma that was working it's way out and luckily there were no issues. Just wanted to share in case the spotting increased that it doesn't always 100% of the time mean it's something horrible. I know it's pretty much impossible not to worry though.

  • I also just wanted to say that you are super early, and I don't think they will be able to see or hear anything on your US so don't get too nervous!  As long as the betas are good, you are good!

  • Sorry I'm just seeing/responding to this now, but wanted to share my experience as well!

1: Your progesterone is looking awesome. Natural increases/decreases can happen day-to-day and even within the same day. The fact that your started so high, dipped, and then shot right back up says you are just fine without a progesterone supplement. Mine was FAR lower than yours, and borderline too low for the RE's comfort, so they put me on it, but your numbers are awesome!

2: A little bit of very light spotting and crampiness and is totally normal. I felt crampy like I was about to get AF for at least half of first tri.

3: A couple of days after my last progesterone dose, I started bleeding. I was around 11w2d. It was bright red and went through the jeans I had on that day between leaving my house and getting in to work (about an hour and a half). I was freaking the eff out, as you might imagine. I kept an eye on it for the morning as my nurse instructed me to, and called back around lunch time when it picked back up again. I went in to get checked, and everything looked fine, other than the slight flow of blood. An u/s didn't show where it was coming from, but baby was doing great. Since then, everything's been fine.

It's easy to freak out, but rest assured, everything points to your little one just getting nice and comfy in there! I hope everything goes well for you today at your appt!
