Re: QOTD 6/19

  • Yup...
When I was 16, I worked at a lawyer's office that was next door to my house. I filed and photocopied my summer away, haha. Then, I realized that the boss was a huge jerk and refused to go back the next summer.

The next summer, I got a job in the pharmacy of a drug store. I loved that job! I worked there for the rest of high school and on college breaks. I could count pills incredibly fast, haha!

  • Sort of. I worked as a house keeper for my mom;s friend for a couple months.  But my first real job wasn't until I started college. H has only had 2 jobs, his part time he started when he was 16 and stayed at all through college and then his current job which he got after graduating.  He really liked his part time job and was there for 6 years.

  • I was a lifeguard and then head lifeguard for 6 summers.  It was at a big waterpark so it was pretty tough, but it was the best job ever.  Working outside, getting a tan (I did wear sunscreen), getting exercise...it was amazing.

I was a summer camp counselor for 5 years. I started working there as soon as I was old enough, and stopped when I went to grad school and had to take summer classes. It was both grueling and amazing. I wouldn't be the person I am today if it weren't for that place.

  • No, I actually didn't get my first official job until I was 17.  I spent every summer at goat shows and in the barn.  I never wanted to work, because I preferred unpaid farm work.  To this day I would rather pitch poop than sit behind a desk!  This being said from the comfort of my desk, while it's storming outside.
  • Yes I did :) I worked in summer camps and in daycare in my summers. I absolutely loved it, so much so that I went to college for my ECE
  • At 16 I was a camp counselor at the ymca for the aftercare program. So only 3 hours.

Then that school year I started a serving position at the rich retirement community. You know the people that needed sorbet in a scooped out lemon to cleanse their pallet before their entres. It was fun for the most part.

I worked there until the summer after sophomore year of college where I got a job at the grocery store so I could get more hours.

  • I taught dance over my summers and during the year too. My first real job was during the summer between High school and college. I was a contractor at IBM calling employees to find out how their help desk experience was. It was such a stupid job and looking back I can't believe how many people were employed their as a regular full time job.

  • Yes, I worked through summer and after school during the rest of the year.  I started as a hostess and then moved on to being a waitress.  Before I became a waitress, I also worked in a real estate office weekend mornings answering phones.  It was the most boring job ever!!  But, it paid $12/hr and for a 15 yr old, that was awesome!

  • I had a few, all in the same summer. I was a nanny for a 7 and 9 year old, I life guarded and taught swim lessons and worked part time at Toys R Us. It was a crazy but super fun summer. I think it was between my junior and senior years. I ended up working for Toys R Us for over 10 years.

  • I worked year round. At 15 I started working at a McDonalds. After I had several jobs at the mall including assistant manager at Things Remembered. I would work after school between two places and split time between them on weekends too. I also babysat for one family all through high school every Saturday night. I liked to keep busy!
  • Yep I started working at 14. I did a golf summer camp teaching kids that summer. Then once I was 15 and could get a work permit, I started working at a restaurant year round, including summers. Never really stopped! Ha

  • I started working when I was 17. I got a job at Walgreens and I worked during the school year too

  • I had a few.  I worked as a nanny I think for 2 summers.  That was one of the hardest jobs that I had.  I was a cashier at a supermarket.  I was a counselor at a sleep away camp.  Before and after I was away at the camp, I worked at the ice skating rink, which was a roller skating rink in the summer.  I worked at the Gap one summer.

Some of these jobs overlapped.  From the way that I wrote it, it seems like I was in high school for more than 4 years.
  • Worked during the summer briefly at the nursing home my mom worked at. They basically had me making beds, handing out towels and occasionally passing around food trays.

Otherwise, I worked more during the school year teaching at the studio I danced at.
