Wedding Drama

There has been so much drama with my brother's upcoming wedding and I can't wait for it to finally be here. Yet, 10 days away the drama still continues...

Since the beginning (12/2013) my parents said they would pay for the RD and FSIL's family said they would cover everything else (this is the norm in our area). Then a few months ago my brother said that FSIL's family expected my parents to pay for the flowers because "the groom's family pays for the RD and the flowers." Umm WHAT?! My mom went right to google and found several different lists of what the groom's family and the bride's family pays for. She found nothing that had just those two items on the groom's list.

Flash forward to last night when my brother called my mom and told her that they, as in my parents, were expected to pay for the flowers. Umm WTF!? My mom assumed that since, FSIL nor her family mentioned the flowers that they were paying for them. My mom is so pissed, but knowing her she will just pay it because she doesn't want to start drama this close to the wedding.

As the days get closer to the wedding I dislike FSIL more and more...

Re: Wedding Drama

  • That is usually something that is discussed upfront and if they said they would pay for the rest then flowers should be included in that. I have 2 pretty crappy SIL's so I can completely relate and unfortunately there is nothing you can do except sit back and watch your parents get walked on. I can express things to my mom all the time but until they decide to say something your hands are tied pretty much.
  • I think it's ridiculous to expect anyone to pay for anything for your wedding. It's the norm around here for the groom's parents to pay for the RD and the bride's parents to pay for everything else, as it is in your area, but you better believe we all discussed it before hand. To drop this on your parents so close to the wedding is even more ridiculous. Hopefully your FSIL will become normal again after the craziness of the wedding dies down.

    This!!

That is the "norm" in our area too but we didn't expect anyone to pay a dime for our wedding. We had the wedding that WE could afford, not the wedding our families could afford! Yes, our parents helped out but we never once expected it and I think it's pretty shitty of FSIL to assume that everything will be paid for for HER wedding. Not to mention, springing this on your parents 10 days before the wedding. What would she do if your parents said, nope not paying for the flowers?! Why do weddings bring our the crazies?!?

  • Oh the hot fury of hell if I ever TOLD my parents they were to pay for something!! I agree this $#!% should have been worked out before anything was even planned. You sit down and have an adult conversation of what (if anything) they would like to contribute and that's it. Surprises 10 days before the wedding (unless it's an emergency) are not cool!

  • I think both our parents would of laughed in our faces. Now as couples get married older, I think the norm is changing to the couples pay. Neither of our parents have any money, my mom gave me as much as she could to help pay for her huge family and bought my dress and his parents gracious gave us a beautiful RD, but I think that's because I wanted a pizza party and they refused haha. Other then that we were on our own and I would of never asked my parents for anything more.

MIL and SMIL gave us money for the RD and we still had a pizza party! Most of our RD guests were from out of town and we ordered from a local pizza place that everyone loves to eat at when they come in. We still had money left over and MIL and SMIL told us to keep it for the honeymoon!
  • lol there is a famous pizza place down the jersey shore (where we got married) and I wanted to have it there or order it and bring it back to gorgeous house we rented but my IL's are kinda snobby, so they took over and had it at the gorgeous place on the bay, so I can't complain but they have no money we could of saved them so much...oh well!
