I need to vent (possible LR, probable TMI)

On Friday night, when we were leaving a friend's house, I went to the bathroom and noticed that I was bleeding. Since my period ended last Saturday, I was concerned and DH agreed that we should go to the ER. At the hospital, they took urine and blood and confirmed that I had a faint positive (doc's words) on the urine test and my hcg was 397. They did a transvaginal u/s and didn't see anything (though the u/s tech said she could see a small "corpus luteum cyst" on my right ovary.

Since then, I've been spotting with some light bleeding, and I've been having some very light cramping on my right side (the same side where the tech saw the cyst).

I know that m/c is a definite possibility, but I'm trying to stay positive until I go to my regular OB/GYN for repeat blood work tomorrow. I just needed to tell somebody because DH and I agreed that we're not going to tell our families till we know for sure, and I'm freaking out a little bit. :(

Re: I need to vent (possible LR, probable TMI)

  • How interesting that it was only a "faint positive" on your urine test with a serum beta close to 400. They didn't think you had an ectopic, right? Although, I'm not sure you'd be able to see anything with that beta level anyways. Definitely keep us posted. I'll keep my FX for good news just in case!

Thank you. The doctor said it was possibly an ectopic, but that the absence of any pain or cramping on my part didn't really indicate that, and that it's probably just really early or I'm having a m/c. He did tell me to come back if I have any severe cramping or if I start bleeding heavily. So far, neither of those has happened. (Knock on wood.)

I'm going on a short road trip with DD today, to see my aunt and my brother in another city, so I'm hoping that will take my mind off it...
  • Ditto what FMW said. That beta level is too low to show anything on u/s (the RE couldn't see anything for certain when my level was 1000).

I sincerely hope you get happy news when you go to your ob/gyn's office.

And I understand being freaked out and not wanting to say anything until you know. I was in limbo for an entire week when I had my loss. Until I got the final word, I felt like I couldn't breath and I kept going back and forth in my head.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope your trip today helps distract you.

  • That's interesting that the doc would say a "faint positive" on the pee test at a beta of 397.  My positive was most definitely positive when my beta was at 319. The week of limbo was the worst, and I hope yours turns out better than my wait did.

Hopefully the positive news will be that you didn't just have your period end last Saturday and you've been pregnant a lot longer than you thought!
